Oshawa Legionaires Scout Day: Quick Hits

Cam Black-Araujo
Lead Scout, PBR Canada

On Monday, September 26th, our staff was in Oshawa for our annual Oshawa Legionnaires Scout Day. We've run a Scout Day with the organization for several years now and it's given us a look at some of their exciting, young up-and-coming talent, along with their current crop of upperclassmen preparing for the college route.

Once again the weather wasn't on our side, so we turned to the Durham College Fieldhouse to get a look at roughly 30+ players from the organization. Below, we take a look at six of the standouts from Monday's showcase.

Logan MacDonald 3B / SS / Pickering, ON / 2024

2024 3B Logan MacDonald may have been the biggest winner at the Oshawa Scout Day. He immediately stood out on the infield with his actions and movements from side-to-side. Arm worked up to 77mph with accurate throws. At the dish it’s a balanced left-handed swing with feel for the barrel (88% sweet spot) and a consistent line drives throughout his round with a top exit velo of 83.4mph. Good day for MacDonald who has a well-rounded game right now and is no doubt one of the top prospects in the Legionaires organization.

Nolan Hartley SS / RHP / Maxwell Heights, ON / 2022

2023 SS/RHP Nolan Hartley is one of the older and more mature players in the program and should get some looks from college coaches at the next level. Athletic looking frame up the middle at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds with clean actions and arm strength across the diamond at 84mph. Strength plays at the dish as well where the right-handed hitter posted the top exit velocity at 89mph with ability to lift for some power at times. Stepped on the mound and topped out at 80mph and was also one of the quicker runners on the day with a 7.41 60-time. An unsigned senior who should be on the radar of junior college coaches.

Ethan Service SS / OF / Maxwell Heights, ON / 2024

Service is a 2024 who our staff has watched develop over the past several years and he continues to get better each time out. An athlete who ran the top 60-time at 7.00 flat and works with a simple swing from the right side that posted the top distance of 309ft. 5-foot-8, 140-pounds with a quiet, rhythmic swing that works to the middle of the field with a top exit velocity of 84mph. Quick feet on the infield where his athleticism is evident and the arm was 77mph across the infield. A 2024 in the program with lots of room to continue growing and elevating his overall game.

Wilson Michel OF / RHP / Port Perry, ON / 2024

Wilson Michel’s strength has shown on both sides of the ball and he flashed that again on Monday with the second best fastball velocity and exit velocity. Michel put together one of the best rounds of BP as he was looking to lift the ball throughout. Right-handed hitter with some projectable power at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds and put up an 86.4mph exit velocity with the top average distance of 232ft. Arm works in the outfield where he was up to 82mph and also on the mound where he topped out at 81.1mph. Also flashed a good changeup with feel for the pitch. A 2024 from Oshawa who’s been on the scene for some time now and will continue to garner attention going forward.

Allon Seepersaud RHP / C / R S McLaughlin Collegiate and Vocational, ON / 2024

2024 C/RHP Allon Seepersaud may have made the biggest jump, development wise, in the program. His arm strength is the biggest tool that jumps out and his actions in all areas have become quicker and smoother. Tied for the top pop-time at 2.01 with accurate throws at 70mph. His most impressive portion of the day came on the mound where he sat 79-82 and topped out at 83.4mph. Skinny, wiry frame at 5-foot-9, 145-pounds with a long, loose arm. Offspeed stuff still needs to develop but it’s clean and comfortable on the mound with lots of upside.

Hayden McGrath 1B / RHP / Pine Ridge Secondary School, ON / 2024

2024 1B/RHP Hayden McGrath caught the building’s attention with his round of BP. Looks the part in the box with a big, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. The right-handed hitter put together one of the most consistent rounds of the day, finding the barrel 60% of the time and catching the ball outfront with a quick bat. The power projects and there’s tons of room to add strength to his frame. Top exit velocity of 82.9mph. He was clean on the mound as well where he sat 76-77mph with the fastball. Looks the part of a productive two-way player right now but there looks to be more upside at the dish.
