On Friday, November 25th, PBR Ontario hosted its final full showcase of the year in the Nation's Capital for the Ottawa Fall Open ID. The event included over 25+ players with the majority of them being on the positional side.

Players ran through a pro-style workout that included batting practice, positional drills and the 60-yard dash. We had players from the 2023-2025 classes and one 2026 with some strong showings across the board on the infield and at the dish.

We begin to break down everything from the event, starting with reports and video on some of the top performers.

Cole Smart C / OF / Laurel Heights, ON / 2023

Smart was a standout catcher today at the Ottawa Fall ID. Behind the dish it’s a quick transfer and his throws were around the bag with a pop-time of 2.16 and 77 mph velo. In the box, he looks to elevate to the pull side with a strong lower half. Top EV of 89.9mph and distance of 305ft. Smart is an uncommitted senior that can easily catch at a juco.

Jude Russell SS / 3B / Carelton Place, ON / 2025

Russel put together one of the better days at the Ottawa Fall ID. In the box, it’s an aggressive left-handed swing with bat speed and whip. The ball jumped off his bat to the pull side with loft and a top EV of 92 mph. Consistently found the barrel throughout his round. Russell will be a close follow in the 2025 class in Ontario going forward.

Evan Primeau OF / RHP / St. Francis Xavier High School, ON / 2023

Primeau was one of the better outfielder we had at the Ottawa Fall ID. The athletic 5-foot-8, 145-pound RHH worked with a line-drive approach that played to all fields. In the outfield, he fields the ball cleanly with a clean arm that showed carry towards home plate at 82mph. Primeau is an uncommitted senior that is an easy pick up for a juco.

Nicholas Moretto SS / 2B / South Carleton, ON / 2024

Moretto has improved every time we’ve seen him this year. A projectable 6-foot-2, 160-pound frame looks right in a uniform. In the box he works to the pull side with a long bat path through the zone. When he catches it out front, he creates loft and has power potential. On the infield, he works with clean hands with long range. Moretto continues to develop and is a guy that will be a close follow next season.

Jamie Mercer SS / 2B / Holy trinity catholic secondary school , ON / 2025

Mercer was one of the best athletes on the infield in Ottawa. Athletic actions with proper footwork with clean hands and an arm that works across the diamond at 78mph. In the box, Mercer works to his pull side with a consistent loud contact. Top exit velocity of 86.1mph with some sneaky power and top distance of 284ft. Mercer will be on the scene for a few more years and is an athletic infielder to have on your radar.

Marc-Alexandrr Guerin 2B / 3B / Polyvalente arvida, QC / 2023

Guerin was another Canada Reds Baseball Academy to show well on Friday and immediately impressed with a 6.61 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter with looseness in the swing and the ability to elevate to the pullside. One of the more consistent rounds we saw on the day. He has good feet on the infield and fields balls cleanly out front with the ability to throw from multiple arm slots and top velo of 84mph. Another unsigned senior who no doubt has the tools to play at the college level.

Charles Bernatchez OF / RHP / Seminaire Saint-Francois, QC / 2025

Bernatchez flashed a good arm in the outfield (86mph) which immediately had our staff itching to see him on the mound and he didn’t disappoint. Some strength there already at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds and it was a good three-pitch mix. The fastball sat 80-81mph with a lot of strikes and clean mechanics. The slider was tight with good shape and horizontal movement at 68-71mph. An interesting 2025 to keep tabs on in Quebec as he continues to develop.

Jacob Doy-Yat SS / 2B / Darcy McGee High school , QC / 2023

Middle infielder Jacob Doy-Yat impressed with tools across the board and loose actions all over his game. Athletic, projectable frame at 6-foot, 173-pounds and moved well on the infield with quick feet and arm strength (85mph). Left-handed hitter with a quiet setup and line-drive approach right now, working to the pullside. Also ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. Intriguing profile right now as he looks to add strength to his game.
