The PBR MN Fall Review event took place on Sunday, October 21, 2018. The event was held at the West St. Paul Athletic Center in West St. Paul, MN.

The event was exclusive to 2019, 2020, 2021 & 2022 grads who participated in the last Prep Baseball Report Minnesota event of the fall. 

Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff; along with the staff at the West St. Paul Athletic Center for such a great event.

pitchER EVALUATIONS (alpha)

Hunter Ault, RHP/SS, Mounds View, 2019
5-foot-10, 150-pound right handed hitting two-way player.  7.32 runner.  Squared athletic stance.  Hand and body load back with small toe tap.  Aggressive swing with a short finish.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Flat swing plane with inconsistent barrel.  83 mph exit velocity.  IF- Stays low and works around baseball to field.  Good hands and makes routine play.  83 mph arm strength with above average accuracy and carry.  On Mound- Balanced delivery with good tempo.  Throws across body with short arm action from a ¾ arm slot.  Lively fastball and thrown with slight downhill action at 79-81 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with decent shape and lands for strikes at 65-66 mph.  Change-up is flat with occasional cut action at 67-68 mph. 

Joe Becker, RHP/3B, New Prague, 2020
5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.38 runner.  Balanced, slightly open set up.  Rhythm in leg lift and hand load back.  Aggressive swings and lower half gets through swing.  Swing plane works down to contact.  Mid/pull approach with mainly line drive contact.  Overall consistent barrel and swing.  83 mph exit velocity.  IN- Good first step and moves well to field.  Fields ball out in front.  Decent glove and makes routine play.  76 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Good tempo in delivery.  Balanced and good direction down mound.  Throws from ¾ arm slot and longer arm action.  Fastball has varying fastball action at 77-78 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average spin and decent shape thrown at 65-67 mph.  Change-up has fade action at 71-73 mph. 

Reid Benson, SS/RHP, St. Francis, 2019
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.19 runner.  Slightly open square stance.  Hands load back into stride to start.  Pull approach with line drive contact.  Average swing with decent barrel.  Works around contact with average swing plane.  70 mph exit velocity.  IF- Attacks ball and moves ok laterally.  Fields ball deep with ok hands.  Accurate throws with average carry and 73 mph arm strength.  On Mound- Rocker step into a delivery with slight tuck in balance point.  Lands and throws slightly across body from a ¾ arm slot.  Tends to fall off glove side.  Fastball is straight thrown at 70-72 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with ok spin and shape thrown at 60-62 mph.  Change-up is average with some fade action at 62-65 mph.

Matthew Bergom, LHP/OF, Eagan, 2019
6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitting two-way player.  6.97 runner.  Wide open stance.  Strides to square and hands load back.  Short to contact and flashes pop in barrel.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact.  85 mph exit velocity.  OF- Feet move well to baseball.  Attacks ball and works through release.  Decent glove and fields ball clean.  Loose long arm action with good accuracy and below average carry.  On Mound- Slower tempo delivery.  Shorter stride down mound and tall through release.  Fastball is straight and sits 81-82 mph.  Slider has late hard 1/7 break with good spin and shape thrown at 71-72 mph.  Change-up is firm with down action at 77-78 mph. 

Andrew Bevens, RHP/3B, River Falls (WI), 2019
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed throwing two-way player.  6.88 runner.  Tall stance with high hand set.  Toe tap stride and hands load down.  Arm bar and comes around contact.  Flat swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent with some strength in barrel.  88 mph exit velocity.  OF- Attacks ball.  Feet move athletically.  Ok glove and fields ball clean.   Decent arm action.  83 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  IF- Heavy feet and moves better laterally.  Stiff glove but makes routine play.  79 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  On Mound- Good size with longer lower half.  Good balance and quick tempo delivery.  Shorter stride and stays tall through release.  Fastball sits 78-80 mph with varying action.  Curveball is 11/5 break with ok shape and spin, tends to spike at 69-71 mph.  Change-up is 70-72 mph and inconsistent with varying action. 

RJ Brothen, 1B/LHP, North St. Paul, 2019
5-foot-11, 173-pound left-handed hitting two-way player.  8.19 runner.  Squared balanced stance.  Knee to knee and rhythm in hand load back.  Can get more from lower half.  Flashes some pop.  Middle of field approach with mainly line drive contact.  Decent swing plane and stiff finish at times.  79 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet can be heavy to field.  Glove plays high but fields ball consistently.  70 mph arm strength with accurate throws and ok carry.  On Mound- Balance throw delivery.  Swings open and works with good direction.  Throws from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball sits 72-73 mph with varying action.  Curveball has 1/7 break with ok spin thrown at 61-63 mph.  Knuckle ball is 62-64 mph with sinking action. 

Leo Bustos, RHP, Mahtomedi, 2020
6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Big projectable frame with athletic build. Slow and deliberate tempo in delivery.  Lands across body and falls of mound.  Good extension out front.  Throws from a ¾ arm slot with good arm action.  Fastball sits 85-87 mph with heavy run for strikes.  Curveball has 11/5 break with tight spin and ok shape at 67-69 mph.  Change-up is 74-76 mph with fade action thrown for strikes.  Follow arm in 2020 class. 

Christanto D’Agostino, 3B/RHP, Moorhead, 2020
5-foot-7, 210-pound left-handed hitting two-way player.  7.59 runner.  Wide open stance.  Rhythm in load and strides to square.  Hands work down to contact and flat swing plane.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Consistent contact with pop in barrel.  90 mph exit velocity.  IF- Decent actions.  Feet move ok and around baseball to field.  Ok glove and fields ball out in front.  Makes routine play, looks smooth.  81 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Balanced over the top delivery.  Repeatable mechanics and good direction down mound.  Throws from ¾ arm slot and arm works.  Fastball sit 79-80 mph with some life.  Curveball has 11/5 sweeping break with ok spin and shape at 71-73 mph.  Change-up is 72-74 mph some fade action.

Carter Daun, RHP/SS, Rogers, 2021
6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.51 runner.  Balanced squared stance.  Toe tap to stride, and hands load behind back shoulder.  Slight arm bar.  Flat bat path and comes around contact.  Pull approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact.  64 mph exit velocity.  IF- Heavy feet and stops and start to field.  Ok glove and plays high.  Decent arm action with 72 mph arm strength and below average carry and average accuracy.  On Mound- Tall long frame.  Balanced with turn and go delivery.  Lands and throws slightly across body with shorter stride.  Throws from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 73-76 mph with arm side run.  Curveball is 10-4 sweeping break with loose spin thrown at 65-67 mph.  Change-up is inconsistent with varying action at 67-69 mph. 

Lamine Diaby-Gassma, OF/LHP, North St. Paul, 2020
6-foot-1, 210-pound left-handed hitting two-way player.  7.69 runner.  Wide and open stance.  Leg lift start, and hands load back.  Decent bat speed and clean path through zone.  Gap to gap approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Flashes pop in barrel.  88 mph exit velocity.  OF- Feet move ok to field.  Good glove and fields ball clean.  Longer release and arm action.  80 mph arm strength with good accuracy and average carry.  On Mound- Worked from stretch.  Good balance and direction down mound.  Long arm action from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball sits 74-76 mph with varying action.  Curveball is 62-63 mph with 1/7 break and loose spin and ok shape.  Change-up has cut action thrown at 65-68 mph. 

Brant Dickison, OF/RHP, Rochester John Marshall, 2020
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  6.70 runner.  Balance stance with high hands set.  Some rhythm into leg lift and hand load.  Stay tall through swing.  Hands work down to contact and flat swing plane. Middle of field approach with line drive contact.  Decent barrel contact.  83 mph exit velocity.  OF- Moves athletically to ball.  Feet attack ball and into release.  Glove fields ball clean.  Ok arm action with 83 mph arm strength and average carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Balanced and good tempo delivery.  Arm works from ¾ arm slot with slinger type deception.  Fastball is 77-79 mph with varying action.  Curveball has 11/5 break with decent spin and shape thrown at 65-68 mph.  Change-up is thrown with slower arm action and average action at 69-71 mph. 

Will Droll, LHP, St. Ignatius (ON), 2021
5-foot-11, 145-pound left handed pitcher.  Average size with longer lower half.  Simple delivery with good tempo.  Well balanced and finishes down mound with occasional effort.  Lands slightly across body and throws from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is thrown for strikes with some arm side run at 80-81 mph.  Curveball has 1/7 break with tight spin and decent shape thrown 69-70 mph.  Change-up lands consistently for strikes with fade action at 70-72 mph.

Chad Fox, RHP/OF, Totino Grace, 2019
6-foot-3, 170-pound left-handed hitting two-way player.  6.82 runner.  Athletic slightly open stance.  Knee to knee and hand load back.  Slight arm bar at times and dives into plate.  Mid/pull approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Decent barrel and flashes pull pop.  84 mph exit velocity.  OF- Raw overall.  Moves ok to field.  Glove is stiff but makes the play.  83 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Good frame.  Balanced delivery.  Stiffer arm action from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball sits 75-78 mph with varying action but flashed hard sink.  Curveball has 11/5 break with inconsistent feel thrown at 70-71 mph.  Change-up has average action and stiff thrown at 70-71 mph. 

Logan Fragomeni, C/RHP, Wayzata, 2021
6-foot-1, 188-pound left-handed hitting two-way player.  7.97 runner.  Open relaxed stance.  Leg lift and shoulder load.  Decent hands and inside out swing plane.  Opposite field approach with mainly line drive and ground ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact.  83 mph exit velocity.  C- Balanced squared stance.  Glove works high to low and will stab at ball to receive.  Below average blocker.  Decent exchange and direction with feet.  2.06-2.17 pop times.  71 mph arm strength with average carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Balanced delivery and gather and go down mound.  Shorter stride and stays tall through release.  Throws from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 73-75 mph with slight cut action.  Curveball has 11/5 break with ok shape at 63-65 mph.  Change-up sits 67-68 mph with stiff arm action and slight run and sink. 

Hayden Fraley, OF/LHP, Hastings, 2019
5-foot-8, 165-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.22 runner.  Squared crouched stance.  Body and small hand load back.  Upper and lower half can get disconnected.  Longer swing path to contact.  Middle of field approach with ground ball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel.  81 mph exit velocity.  OF- Good glove and fields through ball.  Feet can be choppy but have good direction to target.  77 mph arm strength with on target throws and average carry.  On Mound- Hands start over the top and good balance through delivery.  Lands and throws across body from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is straight at 73-75 mph.  Curveball has 1/7 break with ok spin and shape thrown at 60-63 mph.  Change-up has inconsistent feel at 65-67 mph. 

Riley Frisk, RHP/1B, Woodbury, 2019
6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  6.97 runner.  Athletic open balanced stance.  Longer frame.  Knee to knee and hand load back.  Arm bar and upper half spins.  Flat swing plane and flashes decent bat speed.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Average barrel contact.  87 mph exit velocity.  IF- Decent athlete.  Feet move ok and better laterally.  Glove can be stiff to field.  Some squat to field.  Long arm action with 82 mph arm strength and average carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Long levers and projectable frame.  Balanced delivery with slight pause at top.  Good direction down mound and extension out front.  Fastball is 79-81 mph and straight.  Curveball has 11/5 break with solid shape and tight spin thrown at 68-70 mph.  Change-up is flat and flashes average fade action at 73-74 mph. 

Riley Funk, LHP/OF, Chanhassen, 2021
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  8.41 runner.  Open balanced stance.  Leg lift and hand load back.  Slight arm bar and swing path works around contact.  Pull swing with ground ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel with short finish.  70 mph exit velocity.  OF- OK feet and field ball clean.  Works through legs to throw.  73 mph arm strength with good accuracy and below average carry.  On Mound- Smaller frame.  Balanced delivery and good direction down mound.  Raw mechanically.  Long arm action and ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 74-75 mph with arm side sink.  Curveball has 1/7 break with loose spin and ok shape at 57-60 mph.  Change-up is 64-66 mph with varying action. 

Theo Giedd, LHP/OF, St. Peter, 2021
6-foot, 163-pound left handed hitting two-way player.  7.62 runner.  Upright stance with slight weight started back.  Small shoulder load and leg lift to start.  Upper body spins through swing.  Inside out swing path.  Mid/oppo approach with line drive contact that lacks carry.  Inconsistent barrel contact.  77 mph exit velocity.  OF- Moves ok to ball with awkward foot work.  Fields ball clean with glove.  73 mph arm strength with below average carry and average accuracy.  On Mound- Hands start delivery over the top and controlled balance with good direction down mound.  Throws from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 72-74 mph with cut action.  Curveball has 1/7 break with loose spin and ok shape at 56-58 mph with inconsistent feel.  Change-up is straight and firm thrown at 69-71 mph.

Tommy Gupton. RHP/2B, LeSueuer-Henderson, 2020
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting two-way player. 7.59 runner.  Tall upright open stance.  Starts with a high hand and back elbow setup.  Shoulder load and stride to start.  Mid/pull approach with mainly line drive contact.  Slight arm bar and flat swing plane.  Swing at times tends to get stiff.  76 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet move ok laterally.  Can sit back on baseball.  Hands can be hard at times but makes routine play.  Throws from a lower arm slot at 72 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Balanced start and through delivery.  Good direction down mound with quicker tempo.  Throws from a lower ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is at 78-79 mph and thrown for strikes with run and sink.  Curveball has 11/5 break with tight spin and decent shape at 70-71 mph.  Change-up is firm with sinking action at 72-75 mph.  Overall added strength will help with development.

Patrick Hayes, LHP, Rosemount, 2019
6-foot-4, 170-pound left-handed throwing pitcher.  Long projectable frame with room to fill out.  Worked from stretch.  Balanced and crouched start.  Good direction down mound.  Glove side flies open and throws all arm at times.  Long arm action and throws from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball sat 77-79 mph with downhill varying action.  Curveball has 1/7 break with solid shape and down action thrown at 66-67 mph.  Change-up is flat and flashes average fade action at 68-70 mph.

Gage Johansen, RHP, Luck (WI), 2020
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Good size and longer lower half.  Good balance and tempo in delivery.  Lands across body and throws from ¾ arm slot.  Inconsistent extension out front.  Fastball sits 80-82 mph with some arm side run.  Curveball has 11/5 break with ok spin and shape thrown at 67-69 mph.  Change-up is spiked with varying action at 74-75 mph.

Blake Kaufhold, RHP/3B, Chanhassen, 2020
5-foot-10, 133-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.63 runner.  Upright open stance.  Rhythm in load and strides to square.  Slight arm bar that works around contact.  Pull approach with line drive contact.  Decent swing plane with consistent contact.  72 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet can be choppy and slow to field.  Glove works high to low.  Short arm action with 73 mph arm strength and average accuracy and carry.  On Mound- Decent athlete.  Balanced and repeatable delivery.  Good direction down mound.  Short arm action and ok extension.  Fastball is 72-74 mph with slight downhill action.  Curveball works 60-61 mph with 11/5 break, average shape and good spin.  Change-up is thrown with ok arm apeed at 66-67 mph and average action.

Brady Kraling, RHP, Rochester Lourdes, 2019
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Strong athletic build.  Potential to grow on the mound.  Raw mechanically but shows arm strength.  Balanced delivery and lands across body some.  Throws from ¾ arm slot and arm works well.  Fastball sits 83-85 mph and touched 88 mph.  Ball jumps out of hand with varying action.   Curveball has sweeping break with ok spin and shape thrown at 70-74 mph.  Change-up is straight with inconsistent feel at 76-78 mph.  Follow in 2019 class.  Arm has a chance to grow.

Caleb Kranz, RHP, Shakopee, 2019
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed pitcher.  Long and lanky projectable frame.  Good tempo delivery and direction down mound.  Throws from 3/4 arm slot with good extension on release.  Lands slightly across body and hides ball.  Easy arm action with fastball life.  Fastball is 82-83 mph with a sinking action at times.  Curveball has hard 11/5 break with tight spin and good shape thrown at 73-74 mph.  Change-up is thrown with good arm speed and varying action at 74-75 mph.  Follow arm in 2019 class.

Evan Maass, RHP, Minnetonka, 2019
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed throwing pitcher.  Strong athletic frame.  Good balanced delivery.  Gets down mound with extension out front.  Throws from ¾ arm slot with decent arm action.  Fastball is heavy and straight and sat 85-86 mph.  Slider has 10/4 break and tight with good spin at 70-73 mph.  Change-up has good fade action and has some firmness thrown at 77-79 mph.  Recent University of San Francisco commit.

Cade Marsolek, RHP/SS, Burnsville, 2019
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.06 runner.  Good athlete.  Open athletic stance.  Knee to knee and slight shoulder load.  Strides to square.  OK bat path.  Mid/pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact.  Decent barrel contact with flashes of pop.  84 mph exit velocity.  OF- Moves athletically to ball.  Ok glove.  Average all around.  Arm is loose.  82 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On mound- Good size.  Balanced delivery with slight pause.  Gets down mound with extension out front.  Throws from ¾ arm slot with good arm action.  Fastball sat 83-85 mph with down action.  Curveball has 11/5 break with average spin and shape thrown at 71-72 mph.  Change-up is 74-76 and straight.  Follow in 2019 class into Spring if not committed. 

Jacob Marx, 3B/RHP, Champlin Park, 2020
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  6.87 runner.  Balanced open stance with high hand set.  Compress load with leg lift and hands back.  Dives into plate.  Flat swing plane.  Opposite field approach with groundball to fly ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel.  79 mph exit velocity.  IF- Ok feet and works around baseball to field.  Ok glove and makes routine play.  Longer arm action. 76 mph arm strength with average accuracy and decent carry.  On Mound- Balance over the top delivery.  Shorter stride down mound.  Stiffer arm action from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 71-73 mph with varying action.  Curveball has loose spin with ok shape at 63-65 mph.  Change-up is firm and flat thrown at 68-69 mph.

Gavin McLaughlin, OF/RHP, Rogers, 2019
6-foot, 176-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.08 runner.   Athletic slightly open stance and high hand start.  Small load and strides to square.  Decent bat speed and can be long to contact.  Middle approach with ground ball and line drive contact.  Barrel can be inconsistent.  84 mph exit velocity.  OF- Aggressive to field.  Feet move athletically.  Glove fields ball clean into release.  87 mph arm strength with above average carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Balanced and athletic through delivery.  Long arm action from ¾ arm slot.  Throws with some effort.  Fastball sits 83-85 mph with late run.  Curveball has 11/5 break with decent shape and spin thrown at 73-75 mph.  Change-up is firm with average fade at 77-79 mph. 

Alex Mihalakis, SS/RHP, Minnetonka, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.45 runner.  Upright open stance.  Leg lift and strides to square with hand load back.  Swing plane works down to contact.  Middle of field approach with line drive contact.  Inconsistent barrel and good when on time.  81 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet work around baseball to field.  Ok hands and makes routine play.  Quick transfer to glove.  71 mph arm strength with good accuracy and below average carry.  On Mound- Balanced start into tuck and go delivery.  Lands across body and throws from ¾ arm slot.  Fastball is 79-80 mph with some run.  Curveball has 11/5 break with loose spin and ok shape thrown at 66-67 mph.  Change-up has fade action at 73-75 mph. 

Travis Mosley, RHP/OF, Robbinsdale Armstrong, 2020
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed throwing two-way player.  7.51 runner. Wide balanced stance.  Small body rocker load and stride to start.  Minimal movements and timing can be off.  Inside out swing path.  Mid/oppo approach with mainly ground ball contact.  Inconsistent barrel contact.  79 mph exit velocity.  OF- Attacks ball to field and gains ground to release.    Glove can be stiff at times.  OK arm action.  86 mph arm strength with decent carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Raw mechanically.  Over the top delivery with slight pause on the way down mound.  Lands and throws across body.  Arm works from a ¾ arm slot with some effort in arm action.  Stays tall through release.  Fastball has some life with varying action at 81-84 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with ok shape and loose spin thrown at 62-66 mph.  Change-up is inconsistent with cut action and 69-70 mph.

Tanner (TJ) Neu, LHP, St. Cloud Cathedral, 2020
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed pitcher.  Average size body type.   Good tempo through delivery.  Balanced into leg lift and swings open down mound with good direction.  Hides ball through release.  Good extension out in front and throws with some effort.  Throws from ¾ arm slot and shorter arm action.  Fastball sits 77-78 mph with slight cut action.  Curveball has 1/7 break with ok depth and good spin thrown at 68-69 mph.  Change-up is thrown with slower arm action and varying action at 69-71 mph. 

Ben North, SS/RHP, East Ridge, 2021
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting two-way player.  7.07 runner.  Shoulder width squared stance.  Strides and hand load back to start.  Short and quick aggressive swing.  Decent bat speed and flashes pop in barrel.  Mid/oppo approach with line drive contact.  86 mph exit velocity.  IF- Feet can be choppy and moves better laterally.  OK glove and works high.  83 mph arm strength with good carry and accuracy.  On Mound- Athletic presence.  Balanced delivery and good direction down mound.  Throws from ¾ arm slot with good arm action.  Fastball has life thrown at 79-82 mph.  Curveball has 11/5 break with inconsistent shape and ok spin at 65-67 mph.  Change-up is 69-71 mph with push release. 

Dylan Notsch, SS/RHP, Sartell-St. Stephen, 2019
