PBR Spring Training: Day 5-7 Quick Hits I

PBR Canada Staff

PBR Canada Spring Training has now come to an end and it couldn't have been a better or more fun seven days down South for our staff. We got an early look at hundreds of Canadians and it was first major event that will help our staff begin to narrow down players who will eventually compete for the PBR Canada Selects teams at several marquee PBR events in the U.S. including the Future Games, Junior Future Games and the West Coast Games.

Stay tuned over the next week as we continue to break down everything from PBR Spring Training including All-Tournament Teams, top players at the event and statistical stories and breakdowns.

We had full staff on hand from Canada and Florida throughout the week with five active fields filled with 230+ Canadian prospects. We had 8 total games played on Sunday among eight different Canadian squads from the Ontario Giants, NRS Academy, Canes Canada, Whitby Canadians, Etobicoke Rangers, Ontario Prospects and PBR Canada Selects.

Below, we continue to break down everything with video and scouting notes on seven standouts from the final three days of the event.

SPRING TRAINING QUICK HITS I: DAY 5-7

Josh Skuce SS / RHP / Michael Power/St. Joseph, ON / 2026

2026 SS Josh Skuce flashed his extra-base power all week long coming through with several doubles for PBR Forrest. 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with the ability to find the barrel in-game and moves well around the bases. Right-handed hitter who’s hands start high and uses a toe-tap for timing. Quality showing with the bat all week and will be a 2026 to follow throughout the summer season with a strong 15U Terriers team.

Dylan Nerlich C / OF / St. Michaels College , ON / 2026

2026 C/OF Dylan Nerlich put together a quality performance behind the dish throughout the entire week. Seemed to make an impact on every single game back there with his ability to handle the arms, block baseballs and throw out runners. Stood out more defensively but he came through with a couple knocks and there’s lots to like in the right-handed swing. Another Terriers 2026 who showed well this week.

Steven Trkulja 1B / RHP / Bishop Allen Academy, ON / 2026

Trkulja was another standout from the Terriers 15U team down at PBR Spring Training. Physical 6-foot-4, 185-pounds, looks the part in the box and the swing plays in game. It seemed like he was finding the barrel in every game for juice, he catches the ball out in front and gets extended consistently. Trkulja swung the bat well all week long and he will be one to follow once game action starts up this spring.

Matt Barkley OF / LHP / Thousand island secondary school (TISS), ON / 2025

2025 OF/LHP Matt Barkley was one of the top performing bats at PBR Spring Training and seemed to come through with multiple hits in nearly every game. 5-foot-10, 170-pounds and reads the game well in all areas with good bat-to-ball skills. Average runner right-now but gets around the basepaths well. Quality showing from the uncommitted 2025 who will play with the Detroit Bees and play some elevated competition down South.

Akshay Persaud 3B / 2B / Dunbarton, ON / 2025

2025 SS Akshay Persaud put together a good week at the plate and on the infield. Showed well on scout day at shortstop with good, active feet, a smooth glove and arm strength that translated to game action where he turned several difficult balls into outs. Right-handed hitter with a wide setup, good load and level swing. Produced in-game with several hits and some loud contact at-times. Gap-to-gap right now with some speed but the bat will become more impactful as he fills out his 5-foot-10, 153-pound frame.

Mylo Pereira OF / OF / Ontario Virtual , ON / 2025

2025 OF Mylo Pereira made a good impression with the right-handed bat this past week and has made big improvements since we saw him last summer at the New York State Games. Strength at the plate at 5-foot-11, 210-pounds and he’s consistently on-time, looking to use the middle of the field and hit the gaps. There’s bat speed and creates good leverage with the lower-half. The bat looks to be the carrying tool right now and he had it on full display in Cocoa.

Carter McCormick C / Brooklin, ON / 2025

McCormick’s defensive ability stood out throughout the week behind the dish for the 16U Prospects squad. Soft, quiet hands when receiving and getting under the low pitches well. He threw out multiple runners this week, with clean transfers and an arm that continues to get stronger. McCormick also had a base hit in the game yesterday, shooting his backside gap for a single. Good overall showing on both sides of the ball for McCormick.
