PSA Scout Day: Quick Hits I

Cam Black-Araujo
Lead Scout, PBR Canada

PBR Canada headed East on Sunday to host the annual Premier Sports Academy Scout Day at their facility in Paradise, Newfoundland. It was a fantastic turnout once again with 50+ players in the program as they took part in their final high-level workout of the year.

We saw a couple high-profile East Coast prospects take the mound, along with a ton of underclass standouts from the 2025 - 2026 classes. With a ton of talent on hand, we begin to break it all down below with our first set of quick hits from the event, taking a look at six standout players.

Luke Druken RHP / 3B / Waterford Valley , NL / 2025

2025 RHP/3B Luke Druken was no doubt the biggest winner among underclassmen and continues to gain momentum following this summer’s Future Games. The arm immediately stood out on the infield with arm speed and throws up to 82mph. The fastball sat 81-82mph with run and nothing but strikes. The curveball is tight with more horizontal action at 68-69mph and there’s feel for the changeup at 75-77mph. Druken continues to show well each time out and has the makings of Newfoundland’s next big arm. Also had one of the best showings on the Swift Jump Mat. Will be fun to watch him continue to develop over the next 2-3 years.

Jaida Lee RHP / OF / Gonzaga High School, NL / 2024

2024 RHP Jaida Lee was another high-profile arm in the building on Sunday and continues to look the part on the mound. The mechanics and effortless delivery immediately jump out and the 5-foot-10, 155-pound right-hander pounded the strike zone with a three-pitch mix. The fastball sat 74-77mph and has been up to 80mph. The breaking ball was 61-63mph with slurve-ish action, along with a changeup at 71-72mph. Lee shows feel for all three of the pitches and there’s no doubt she’s worth a look from college programs right now.

Jack McCarthy RHP / OF / Mt pearl senior high , NL / 2026

2026 RHP/OF Jack McCarthy was another one of the younger prospects to show well at PSA Scout Day. Flashed upside on both the mound and at the dish and it looks right with an athletic, high-waisted frame at 6-foot-1, 150-pounds. Smooth left-handed swing and found the barrel for a ton of line drive contact throughout his round. Works downhill with long levers and body control on the mound. Sat 74-76 T77 with the fastball along with a breaking ball at 64-67mph. Being young, he’s weak right now but projects to be an interesting prospect on either side of the ball.

Hudson White LHP / OF / Holy Heart of Mary, NL / 2024

2024 LHP Hudson White was back to his regular form on Sunday, looking noticeably stronger since the Future Games, now standing at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. He pounded the glove with a fastball at 85-88mph and an improved breaking ball with late, downward action at 71-73mph. Also flashed a slider and splitter. Really intriguing overall package with the size, left-handedness, stuff and mechanics. White was the main attraction at the event as they saved the best last and with all the eyes in the building on him, he didn’t disappoint. One of the top uncommitted arms in the country.

Luke Hatcher RHP / OF / Holy Spirit, NL / 2025

Hatcher was another who stood out projectable left-handed hitter to show well on both sides of the ball. 6-foot, 148-pounds and has explosives movements down the mound with a fastball that sat 76-78 T79. The ball jumped out of his hand and he sat at the knees, along with a good breaking ball that had bite and slurve action at 65-66mph. Also flashed a CH at 72-74mph. LHH with a consistent round and lots of hard contact with the ability to lift the ball. An underclassman in Newfoundland to keep tabs on.

Giovanni Cosma 3B / RHP / St. Bonaventure, NL / 2026

2026 3B/RHP Giovanni Cosma is a freshman who immediately stands out with his athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 150-pounds. Cosma had one of the better swings on the day from the right-side and one of the top exit velocities from the tee. Strength showed throughout his round with the ability to handle the wood bat and lift the ball to the pullside with hard contact. One of the younger players at the event and flashed his upside.
