Spring Jr. Future Games Trials: Quick Hits

On Friday, April 7th, the PBR Ontario staff headed to NRS Institute in Toronto to host our first Jr. Future Games Trials showcase of the season with over 40 players in attendance from the 2026 - 2028 classes 

The event gave our staff a look at the first crop of players vying for a spot on one of Canada's two teams at this summer's Jr. Future Games at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, Georgia. We had several players already on our radar who had their tools on display, as well as some other players who jumped onto the scene with strong performances.

At this event, we retrieved a significant amount of data on each player including: Batting practice measured by TrackMan, catcher velocity, outfield evaluation and velocity, infield evaluation and velocity and pitcher bullpens analyzed and assessed by TrackMan. We pride ourselves on utilizing the latest technology in the game to provide the most accurate data for both the player and those recruiting/evaluating the player.

Robert Omidi SS / 3B / St. Martin Secondary , ON / 2027

2027 Robert Omidi had by far the strongest day at the Jr. Future Games Trials. Sturdy frame at 6-foot, 180-pounds with smooth transitions from glove to hand in the infield. Immediately isolated himself as the top  bat at the event, catching barrel after barrel with a mature approach to his swing. Has a well-timed, aggressive leg kick paired with bat speed and it translated to the highest peak exit velocity at the event at 97.2mph, as well as average exit velocity of 90.3mph. Omidi has shown impressive offseason development heading into the summer season and should be an intriguing follow.

Ramsey Chung SS / RHP / Our Lady of Mount Carmel, ON / 2027

Chung (HPP Tigers) stood out with high two-way upside. Strong 5-foot-7, 150-pound frame with a strength in the lower-half that moves well down the mound. A quick, clean arm action that sits low-3/4 with a good three-pitch mix for his age. His fastball sits 80mph, paired with a slider that touches 2400+ spin rate at times. The changeup is still developing some feel but can develop into a quality pitch as he matures. Swinging the bat, Chung has a tight and compact swing, showing a strong ability to pull the baseball for some power, averaging 80.5mph exit velocity and peaking out at 85.8mph for the day.

Ko Abe RHP / 3B / Leaside, ON / 2026

2026 Ko Abe was one of the more highly-anticipated prospects at the event after being selected to the PBR Canada Spring Training ‘Third-Team All- Tournament’ squad earlier this month. A wiry 6-foot, 140-pound frame with a whippy arm action that sits 78mph with the fastball, complimented well with a vertical, top-to-bottom breaking ball. Advanced footwork left-to-right on the infield with the ability to stay balanced throughout his motions. Abe has a smooth bat path in his swing with the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields, peaking in exit velocity at 83.9mph.

Alex Landry RHP / OF / Bill Crothers, ON / 2026

Landry is another interesting two-way out of the Prospects organization, standing an athletic 6-foot, 165-pounds with long limbs. On the bump he has whippy arm movement with downward action from a high release point. His breaking ball tunnels well with the fastball, and the spiking curveball has potential to create some swing and miss with tough illusions to hitters in the box. In the field Landry got it up to 81mph with clean movements in his upper half. At the plate he has limited movement in his swing motion, with nothing extra going on outside of a slight leg lift in his load, timed with his natural swing torque. Landry had a solid round of swings with one of the top average exit velocities at the event.

Oscar Leah OF / LHP / St. Marcellinus , ON / 2027

Oscar impressed with both ends of the game, first on the mound where he stands at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds with clean arm action from the left-side. Shows advanced feel for the fastball, locating well and topping out at 79.8mph with a slider that has sweeping actions. His changeup was thrown for strikes with simple downward action at 70-72mph. In the outfield portion of the event, Leah led the way with 85mph arm velocity and was athletic in his fielding motions, keeping his footwork clean and creating momentum through the ball. In the box his left-handed swing has a quick load, with a bat path that generates lots of balls in the air, peaking at a distance of 287 feet.

Liam Cleaver C / 3B / St Ignatius Loyola, ON / 2026

Cleaver showed one of the more polished overall games at the Jr. Future Game Trials in Toronto. His swing stood out amongst all his tools with a mature approach and high hands in his stance with a simple lower half that creates a smooth swing plane. His numbers stand out at the plate, with a peak distance of 289 feet and catching barrel at a clip of 90%, courtesy of our Trackman. His quick footwork and transfer behind the dish also stood out.
