Team Canada - Day 3 Notes

George Halim
Assistant Director - PBR Canada

HUGH PINKNEYC / OF / SILVERTHORN CI, ON / 2022

Pinkney is one of the players from Canada who's come a very long way. A good-looking catcher, he looks right in the box, stands upright, good feel and has a backside approach. He notched two hits to his name today, and defensively you could argue that he's the best defensive option for the national team right now. The arm works, he's a dog behind the plate, plus makeup, and he has a body that looks the part right now.

DEITEN LACHANCE C / 3B / LE TRIOLET, QC / 2023

A young catcher with a lot of mileage left on him, there's a lot to like in Lachance. Still 16, he's 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, and while the body is soft right now, a winter in the gym will do wonders for him. The swing is good, shows some violence and has some raw power that translates to game. Lachance had two hits in game, defensively the hands are soft, he's suer flexible, and while there's some refinement needed, he comes from a program in Quebec that has produced some of the best defensive catchers in the country.

SAM SHAW SS / OF / LAMBRICK PARK SECONDARY SCHOOL, BC / 2023

Another good day for Shaw, his at-bats are always something to watch. The plate discipline is there, the swing is consistent and repeatable and he has a knack for catching barrels. Shaw had a base hit the other way today, he competes in the box, shows plus makeup and feel for a lot of things offensively. It's easy to see that Shaw wants to be on the ball field all the time.

CHARLES OLIVIER CYR OF / RHP / ECOLE DE MORTAGNE, QC / 2023

A pitcher by trade, Cyr is scheduled to throw on Sunday, but not before he showcased some hit tool on Saturday. The 6-foot-5 Quebecer had two hard hits and a loud out in game. The swing is definitely a work in progress, but he makes it work. There's a lot to dream on with the body and his look, and we wouldn't be surprised if he came out throwing hard on the mound.

ELLIOT CADIEUX LANOUE LHP / OF / FADETTE, QC / 2024

We saw Lanoue earlier this summer at the Future Games where he was up to 88. In his first start for Team Canada, he sat 83-86, up to 87. He throws a CB, a slurvy slider and a changeup. The mechanics are repeatable, the arm is clean, and while he struggled a bit to find the zone, he's an arm to keep an eye on going forward who has a chance to be low 90s from the left side with some secondary stuff to boot.

TY DOUCETTE 1B / FOOTHILLS COMPOSITE, AB / 2023

The Oregon State commit has been taking hard swings all day, and he was able to run into one for a single to right in-game. It's a big body and his only chance is to play first base, but his best position is batter's box. We've seen the swing good, and there's a chance for him to hit down the road, but because of that stock there needs to be some in-game power and it's a question of whether or not we're going to see it. At its best, he could be a one of the better hitters around.
