Future Games Commitment Tracker

It’s been three months now since the sun set on the 2021 Future Games and it’s allowed some time for our Canadian prospects to continue some dialogue with the schools who joined us at Lakepoint.

Four players, two arms and two outfielders, have already signed with three players ending up in the Big Ten and one heading to the Missouri Valley Conference.

The 2019 team (the last time Canada sent a team due to the pandemic) saw 12 players commit to Division I programs including LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida State, Kentucky and Oregon.

It’s still early so we will continue to update this list as it grows longer.

Matt Evans OF / Glendale, ON / 2023

Report: Evans was the first commit from our 2021 Future Games squad after putting his tools on display in late July. The speed immediately stands out from the centre-fielder who ran a 6.64 at the Future Games. His athleticism and reads in the outfield are some of the best in the country. At 5-foot-11, 160-pounds, Evans doesn’t have the biggest frame but the left-handed hitter consistently makes hard contact from gap-to-gap and uses his speed to take an extra base or swipe an extra base.

Kaleb Thomas RHP / SS / Brantford Collegiate Institute, ON / 2023

Report: Kaleb Thomas took the ball on day one of the Future Games and set the tone for the Canadian squad. The strong 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander from the HPP Tigers sat 87-90 with late life on the fastball from a ¾ arm slot. The slider was 73-76 with tight spin, averaging 2500 RPMs. Thomas was firing strikes and attacking opponents, inducing a lot of swing and miss on both the fastball and slider. The Hagersville, Ont., native is one of the most intriguing ‘23 arms in the province and it was no surprise to see him as one of our first Future Game arms off the board.

Griffin Howell RHP / OF / St. Annes , ON / 2023

Report: We first got a look at Howell at the 2019 Windsor Selects Scout Day and it was no surprise to watch him progress to the 2021 Future Games. You can expect the 6-foot, 190-pound right-hander to sit 85-87 while touching 88-89 and working downhill with short arm action. We’ve seen him rack up the strikeouts with the pitch while working up in the zone. Howell features a slider tight slider at 72-76 which works well off his fastball. Just minutes from the Michigan border, Howell is practically already in Big 10 country and that’s where he ends up with his commitment to Nebraska.

Cameron Chee-Aloy OF / SS / Neil McNeil, ON / 2023

Report: Chee-Aloy was one of the main attractions on this summer’s team and didn’t waste any time making his presence felt. On the first day of the event, the Terriers centrefielder ran a 6.62 and was up to 94 mph from the outfield while showing well in batting practice. He’s a high-energy player and one of just a few in the country who can impact a game in many different areas. The speed and arm are above-average and the right-handed hitter has shown the ability to consistently find barrels and put up quality ABs against high-level pitching.
