Uncommitted Spotlight: Cole Cote

Cole Cote C / SS / Notre Dame, ON / 2019

Background: Uncommitted Cole Cote of the Bulletproof Prospects is the 14th overall ranked catcher in the 2019 class. Behind the plate, there’s a lot to like with Cote’s ability, as he displays a quick glove-to-hand transfer, proper footwork with arm strength clocked up to 76 mph to second base. There’s room to shed some time off the 2.00-2.10 pop time, as when he recoils, he tends to pause before getting the throw off. At the plate, Cote loads with a quick processing leg kick, with his hands held high before dropping the barrel on the baseball. Because of the initial position of his bat, his path tends to work down to ball but when he gets going early and gets the barrel out front, there’s bat speed and current extra-base ability with him being able to drive the ball in the air.
