Uncommitted Spotlights - 5 Arms to Know

If I’m a college looking for uncommitted talent in the 2022 and 2023 class, some of the best players in Ontario all on one field is a good place to start.

Early in the Fall, it’s clear to see Ontario is still ripe for talent. Here’s a few players that stood out on the mound on Sunday in Dorchester.

Matteo Pare RHP / 1B / St. Thomas of Villanova, ON / 2023

Report: Pare is a big 6-foot-4 right-hander with long legs and is going to fill out and mature. He works with a short, online takeaway in the back and regular effort in a delivery he repeats fairly well. The fastball worked in the 86-88 range while the changeup, which acts as his best secondary pitch was in the 79-81 range and a developing breaking ball that worked at 74-77 mph. The size, arm, and ease make him a very intriguing 2023 arm that is uncommitted right now.

Julian Robertson RHP / NA, ON / 2023

Report: Robertson certainly catches your attention as he walks off the bus. Long levers at 6-foot-5, 175-pounds and a frame that will expand and should get all kinds of strength over the next few years. He showed some body control in his delivery and looseness in the arm. Fastball worked in the low 80’s and had 11/5 shape on the curveball. A nice follow who is only going to trend up over the next few months and into 2022.

Carson Tehan RHP / OF / Sandwich Secondary School, ON / 2023

Report: Teahan was under control and did a good job of throwing strikes and mixing in his curveball that had proper rotation and shape at 70-72 mph. The fastball worked in the low 80’s and with his clean arm action and delivery, it's not hard to imagine his stuff taking a tick up here in the fall and really climbing early on in 2022.

David Alvarez OF / RHP / St. Joan of Arc, ON / 2022

Report: Alvarez was 84-87 with his fastball and really showed a loose and easy arm stroke with a lean, athletic build and delivery. The slider was 76-77 and backed up on him a little bit but there is some feel for the pitch and can see him polishing it up with the stuff and actions he portrays. The upside is really intriguing here as the fastball is going to continue to add velocity and the body is only going to get stronger. A 2022 arm that can also swing the bat, Alvarez showed this weekend he is one of the top 2022 talents available in Canada for college coaches.

Ty Hamilton LHP / OF / NA, ON / 2023

Report: Uncommitted 2023 Ty Hamilton is a two-way, left on left player out of Ottawa that jumped on the mound for 1 inning of work yesterday. Fastball worked in the low 80’s while he showed some feel to spin the breaking ball with 1/7 shape and some downer action. It’s a controlled delivery with a medium arm stroke in the back that works online. One of the more physical and athletic players in his class at 6-foot-3, 200-pounds. Hamilton is someone who is only going to get better as the winter season approaches and can devote more time to baseball as is a talented basketball player as well.
