COURTICE, Ontario - Ayden Wood is beginning to check off boxes.

The uncommitted senior from Courtice has decided a community college is the way to start life after high school.

“I’m smaller, only 5-8, 5-9,” Wood reasoned as to the decision to go the JUCO route. “I’m also younger, my birthday is at the end of December,”

There was more according to the recently-turned 17-year-old.

“Starting right away at a four-year school is a lot harder,” the third-rated uncommitted 2020 in Canada explained. “JUCO is easier to start right away. I’m hoping to play a lot for two years instead of playing a little at a four-year school, then go to a four-year school where I’m better than I am now and play.”

The choices have been narrowed to Southeast Community College in Iowa, Northeast CC in Nebraska and Cuyahoga CC in Ohio.

“My plan was to go on visits after our Florida trip over March break, but everything was shut down,” Wood related. “It was cancelled the night before the PBR Spring Training trip. I went last year and was looking forward to getting more exposure.”

Interest with the Nebraska and Ohio colleges came through PBR events while the Iowa school was through a friend playing at Southeast.

The opportunity to be a two-way player is another box Wood checked off in his quest to play at the next level.
