The baseball continues to slowly creep up as players are already beginning to ramp up for their respective Spring Training trips in March, as well as showcases and more going on throughout the month of February. With baseball getting back in the air, our staff is already breaking down everything you will need to know heading into the spring. With another season on the horizon, we're looking ahead to potential Player of the Year candidates, the most prestigeous individual honour given out by Prep Baseball Canada.

The inaugural award was given out in 2017 to Landon Leach of the Toronto Mets who ultimately went on to be selected in second-round by the Minnesota Twins that year. This set the precedent for what a potential Player of the Year in the country looks like and we've now amassed six winners (none in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19) who have all gone on to play pro baseball with one of the six, Noah Naylor, already making his way to the big leagues.

Below, we'll provide eight names in Canada right now who are on a trajectory to potentially bring home Player of the Year honour, as well as list all six players who have won the award in the past.

2025 PLAYER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST

Sean Duncan LHP / Port Coquitlam, BC / 2026

Sean Duncan is as exciting as they come in regards to Canadian prospects and has a chance to be the first underclassman to win the award. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound left-hander continued to dazzle each time he took the mound in 2024 as his stuff continued to tick upwards and the aura continued to grow. The fastball now sits comfortable in the 90-92 early on and has full control of a true three-pitch mix. A must-see prospect in Canada who’s now soared up to No. 20 in the national 2026 rankings while also announcing his commitment to Vanderbilt.
