Class of 2027: Updated Rankings Breakdown

Prep Baseball Canada

We rolled our inaugural Class of 2027 a year ago from today and there's been plenty of changes and movements during that time as we continue to begin locking in on underclass players across the province. While several names at the top have held their ground over the past year, there's been plenty of newcomers who have put themselves on the map and helped us expand the class rankings to 80 prospects.

The 2027 class continues to mature and develop as they're now prepared to enter an important summer in their recruitment process. While the 2027 class was eligible for the Future Games this past summer, the event was tailored towards the 2026 class and the 2027s will now be front and centre in July in front of 300+ college coaches. With the baseball season now in the rearview mirror as players are now into their winter training regimen, we will bring you an updated look at Ontario's 2027 class.

Below, we'll break down several players in the Top 10, Notable Risers, Fall Showcase Standouts and Sleepers. All players in the class remain uncommitted as we're now less than eight months away from their recruitment opening on August 1st.

INSIDE THE TOP 10

INF Jalen Jacob (Ontario Blue Jays): Jacob cemented himself as the top ranked 2027 in the province with a special summer in the batter’s box. The 6-foot-2, 240-pounds corner-infielder was the youngest player on Canada’s Future Games team and excelled, capped off with a 102 mph double into the RCF gap. Elite bat speed and an aggressive approach, Jacob possesses some of the biggest power in Canada as a sophomore. Look for Jacob to continue to build off of the 2024 season as we head into 2025.

C/1B Gino De Santis (Great Lake Canadians): ‘27 C Gino De Santis is currently the second-ranked player in Ontario. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 215 pounds, he possesses impressive physical attributes that contribute to his powerful hitting ability with a recorded exit velocity of 103.2 mph. His combination of size, strength, and bat speed makes him a standout talent in the province. He was a standout player all summer in the CPBL’s 15U division and proved to be a top talent in the country competing and thriving against older competition at the
Rogers Centre in September, and being selected to the Canadian Junior National team shortly after.

SS Lincoln Rose (Ontario Terriers): The metrics might not jump out just yet, but if we’re talking about the more mature position players in the class, Rose is it. Standing at 6-foot, 165-pounds, Rose is an athletic mover with feel for the game, and an internal clock over at SS. He started every game at SS for Prep Baseball National at the Best of the West tournament last
May and was a steady, consistent presence. Offensively, Rose shows quality bat-to-ball skills with gap-to-gap juice right now that will only continue to elevate as he matures and add strength. Rose will be a close follow this upcoming spring/summer in the 2027 class.

OF/RHP Theo Lima (Ontario Yankees): We first saw Lima at the Ontario Preseason ID in early February, and were impressed. He continued to elevate his game and showed off some of the best tools in the class this fall at Yankees Scout Day. At the plate, the bat whips throw the zone generating exit velo’s in the mid-high 90’s regularly with a top exit velocity of 99.2 mph and a max distance of 366 ft. On the mound, Lima works with a four-pitch mic featuring two different high-spin breaking-balls. The fastball works 83-85 mph that’s easy out of the hand. The curveball spins up to 2528 rpm with 18.1 inches of total movement and the slider spins at 2431 rpm and kills spin on the changeup at 1634 rpm. Ranked the top two-way player in the province, Lima will look to build on his momentum heading into the 2025 season.

NOTABLE RISERS

1B/LHP Korbin Greaves (Ontario Yankees): ‘27 1B/LHP Korbin Greaves is a promising two-way talent, jumping to number 11 in the rankings. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, he showcases impressive athleticism and strength. With a 94.1 mph exit velocity and an 83.0 mph fastball, Greaves had some of the top metrics at Yankees Scout Day. As he continues to develop, he is expected to make a significant impact in 2025.

RHP Callum Dickie (Barrie Baycats): Callum Dickie has made a significant leap in the updated Class of 2026 rankings, jumping 26 spots to No. 19. He delivered an impressive performance for Ontario at the Ray Carter Cup, coming in as a reliever in Game 1 and shutting down a strong Quebec lineup. Dickie also showcased his skills at Barrie Scout Day this fall, consistently hitting the 80-82 mph range with his fastball, complemented by a slider and a strong feel for his changeup. With his continued development, he will be an exciting player to follow heading into the 2025 season.

RHP Colton Lewis (Team Ontario Astros): Colton Lewis made a notable impression last year when our American staff first saw him at the New Jersey Summer Championships. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed pitcher showcased solid velocity, sitting 82-85 T86 mph with arm-side run with a 69-71 mph curveball with top-to-bottom action. Lewis delivered a strong performance, working a complete game over five innings and striking out seven batters. Will be an arm to keep tabs on in Ontario’s 2027 class.

FALL SHOWCASE STANDOUTS

RHP Tanner Wiens (Fieldhouse Pirates): Wiens' game really took off this past year as he’s sprouted up to 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and has cemented himself as one of the top arms in Ontario’s 2027 class. It’s an easy, fluid delivery with good direction and a fastball that sits 83-85mph with a pair of quality secondary pitches in the slider at 73-75mph and splitter at 75-77mph with good horizontal action. Already has the stuff to miss bats and should find himself at several national events over the next 12 months.

SS/RHP Rohan Persad (Ontario Terriers): Persad caught our attention early on in 2024 with his movements on the diamond, especially on the mound, and should continue trending upwards as he matures and begins to add strength. 5-foot-10, 155-pounds with a three-pitch mix on the mound that has his fastball now into the upper-70s. Also stands out at the shortstop position with his lateral movements. Persad was a top performer at the Toronto Fall ID.

OF/RHP Myles Stevens (Ontario Yankees): Myles Stevens was one of several big winners in the 2027 class from the Ontario Yankees Scout Day. 6-foot-1, 160-pound, lean/athletic frame with arm strength that saw his fastball sit 80-82mph and 83mph velocity from the outfield. He put together a quality round of BP with a Sweet Spot % of 80, exit velocity of 86.7mph and distance of 318ft. Stevens has tools on both sides of the ball and also ran a 7.15 60-yard dash on a tough track. The Ontario Yankees two-way will be an interesting follow over the next year as we await which side of his game will take the first major jump.

PROSPECTS TO FOLLOW IN 2025

OF/1B Galen Hudel (Great Lake Canadians): Hudel carries some of the louder offensive pedigree in the class and is another left-handed bat that college coaches need to circle heading into the summer of 2025. Present strength from the 5-foot-11, 190-pound outfielder and showed the ability to drive the ball to all fields for extra-base hits. Hudel seems to be an offensive standout each time he takes the field, no matter the talent-level, and will be a fun watch over the next year as his college recruitment opens up August 1st of 2025.

RHP Will Steinman (Ontario Blue Jays): Steinman has been a staff favourite in this class with his movements on the mound and ability to generate velocity with ease. Plenty to project and dream on with the 6-foot, 160-pound right-hander and comes with a high-spin arsenal with the FB at 80-83mph (2400+) and curveball at 70-72 (2600-2700). It’s a smooth and easy operation that allow him to fill up the zone and generates whiffs with the two pitches. There’s tons to like here already with plenty more to come.

C/1B Colin Miller (Team Ontario Astros): Miller has been on our radar for over a year now and his physicality from the left-side of the plate continues to standout in the class. There’s no doubt the 6-foot-1, 210-pound backstop has one of the stronger bats in the class as he generates 97+mph exit velocities and distances north of 330ft. The big question this year will be the hit tool as he looks to tap into his raw power in game action. It’s a quick catch/throw behind the dish, aided by his arm strength, with 1.91-2.00 and 79mph throws but there’s more development to come at the position.

NAMES FOR COLLEGE COACHES TO FOLLOW

LHP/OF Brett Crowley (Ontario Terriers): Crowley continues to find himself inside Ontario’s Top 5 in the 2027 class and already possesses some of the better strength in the class. Looks to be more upside on the mound right now as the 5-foot-10, 185-pound left-hander fills up the zone with a fastball in the low-80s and already shows feel for a changeup. It will be interesting to see if he adds a breaking ball to his arsenal this next spring/summer as he begins to gain national attention. Crowley has also swung it from the left-side with some impact, although it’s the profile on the mound that captivates our attention.

OF/LHP Jaden Simpson (HPP Tigers): Simpson is a fun watch in Ontario’s 2027 class as he has two-way potential and flashed it all summer on both sides of the ball. Left/left with projection and strength to come at 5-foot-8, 135-pounds and is consistently a top producer in each game he plays, whether it’s with the bat, speed, defense (OF) or on the mound. We’ve saw him go deep at the Best of the West back in May and spin a near complete-game gem at the 15U National Championships in August, two of the most prestigious tournaments in the country for the 2027 class.

RHP/3B Richard Marshall (Ontario Yankees): Marshall has been one of the biggest risers in Ontario this past year and still seems relatively unknown considering where his game is currently at. Present strength at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds and sat 83-85mph with the fastball at the Ontario Yankees Scout Day, along with a cutter and slider. Already has swing/miss stuff and it’ll be interesting to see where his stuff is in the spring as he’s primed for a big summer with a chance to appear at some high-profile events. The strength also allows Marshall to make an impact with the right-handed bat, generating a peak exit velocity of 94.1mph and distance of 317ft.
