Despite all the challenges that players had to deal with this year, we were still treated to terrific baseball action and outstanding performances on the diamond. While the last 6-7 months haven’t been easy, it didn’t take away from the passion and joy that young athletes show when they’re able to compete in-between the lines. 

Through it all, we’ve been able to continue our scouting coverage and expanded our rankings. Looking at the 2022 class, we’ve gone from 25 to 50 players as we head into the fall and winter months. The list will continue to grow and be updated moving forward.

2022 state rankings

Movement in the Top 5...

Isaac Hill (Hidden Valley) holds onto the #1 spot and has cemented himself as a national level prospect. His physicality and pure stuff give him a starter-type profile. Fellow Oregon State commit Canon Reeder (Summit) jumps up to the #2 spot after showing off some of the loudest tools in the class. His overall athleticism, especially his speed, is well above average and the offensive game has taken a step forward. Back in our initial rankings for the 2022 class, the trio of Cole Hubka (Wilsonville), Jackson Jaha (Clackamas) and Jacob Dodge (Southridge) were all uncommitted. That is no longer the case as all 3 of them have landed Pac12 commitments. As it stands now, Hubka gets the nod at #3 overall for his ability to consistently make winning plays and impact the game in multiple ways. Jaha and Dodge are the 2 more powerful bats in the state though and it’ll be tough to keep them at #4 and #5 respectively if they continue to punish baseballs at a high rate.

Lefties

Whether it’s on the bump or with the bat, there’s a strong presence of left-handed talent remaining in the Top 10. Oregon commit Ian Umlandt (Sherwood) jumps up to #6 after making a velocity jump and continuing to show his ability to use a 3-pitch mix on the bump. He also showed the aptitude to swing it with authority and handle the OF if needed. Mason Utech (Lakeridge) and Ely Kennel (Santiam Christian) both swing it well from the left-side and can do multiple things on defense to give them added versatility. Utech can handle catching or INF duties while Kennel is one of the best pure athletes in the state.
