Last week we got our 2022 spring coverage started off with a matchup between Grant and Westview

We will continue to produce game notes and video from games throughout the spring as well as update our Oregon Power 12 team rankings.

This first match-up was a tightly contested battle that went into the bottom of the 7th tied 4-4 after a late surge from Grant to tie up the ball game. Then with the winning run on 2nd, the 'small ball' approach from Westview prevailed as they pushed across the winning run with a sac hunt and captured a 5-4 walk off victory.

Westview & Grant - 3.16.22

Logan Plunkett, RHP, Westview, 2022, Puget Sound commit. The senior starter went 5 strong in his season debut with 5 strikeouts. Came out with a sinking FB at 78-80 with control in the bottom of the zone. Went to SL often in the mid 70s and showed feel for manipulating the shape based on if he was ahead or behind in the count. Should eat up a lot of quality innings and be a workhorse pitcher this season.

Silas Jolicoeur, 1B, Westview, 2022, Los Medanos CC commit. Strong presence in the box at 6’3, 220 lbs. Flashed bat speed and strength at the plate on this look. Has chance to consistently do damage and produce offense for Westview with some exciting young hitters around him.

Cole Katayama-Stall, SS, Westview, 2024 One of the top ‘24 prospects in the state. Handled all his opportunities at SS and has the actions to stay on the dirt long-term. Offensively showed balance & rhythm in his plate appearances with a polished swing that projects well for future power down the road. Uncommitted.

Ezra Vice, OF, Westview, 2024 Lean, wiry athlete who fits well in the OF with his length strides and straight line speed. Contact type hitter in the box with a middle/oppo approach from the left side. Solid speed threat that helps round out the offensive line-up. Uncommitted

Gunnar Pedersen, INF, Westview, 2024 Another talented soph. for this Westview roster. Quality defender who will likely bounce between SS/2B. Mature approach to the game, understands the speed of the play. Offensively made sound swing decisions and carried himself with confidence in his ABs. Uncommitted

Ben Christensen, 1B/RHP, Grant, 2023 Showed a nice jump on the mound in this relief appearance. Ran his FB up to 87 while pitching 85-86 with heavy life in the bottom of the zone. Also took aggressive hacks in-game and notched a single on the day. Could be an impact arm this season if he stays on his current trajectory. Uncommitted

Christopher Moore, RHP, Grant, 2022 Got the start on the mound and showed the consistent 2-pitch mix we’re accustomed to seeing from him. FB has carry into the zone at 80-81 and plays well with sweeping breaking ball. Competitive demeanor on the bump with poise and mound presence. Uncommitted

Kellen Segel, INF/RHP, Grant, 2023 One of the top uncommitted ‘23 prospects heading into the 2022 season. Was held in check on this look but Segel will play an integral role for Grant both offensively and on the bump throughout the spring. Uncommitted

Cole Snidow, C, Grant, 2022 Athletic backstop who has been on the scene for a while now as one of the top players in the ‘22 class. Quality receiver with catch and throw actions behind the plate. Had one of the best swings on the day that resulted in a loud line-out to the SS. Expect more offensive output this season though. Uncommitted.

Cadan Crowley, INF, Grant, 2022 Delivered a clutch hit when Grant needed it the most. Kept the game alive with an RBI double in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 4 all. Showed the confidence in a big spot that you would expect to see from a senior.

Elliot Brown, OF/INF, Grant, 2023 Another key piece in the junior class for Grant. Brown offers a sound LH swing with contact ability as well as the versatility to handle both INF and OF duties as needed. Uncommitted.
