Oregon Power Rankings: Week 4

PBR Staff

Here we are, on the cusp of our last week of high school baseball action in the state of Oregon. This was an absolute sprint of a season. It feels like just yesterday that we were hunkered down for Opening Day action.

And now, as we prepare for the final stretch of games, we have a new #1 team at the top of the rankings. At 15-0, the Grant Generals have been a model of consistency so far this spring. We caught them in action for their season opening win against West Linn about a month ago. Since then, there has been a fair share of lopsided wins and some narrow victories against other Top 10 foes like Barlow & Clackamas.

While the rest of the Top 5, Lakeridge, Clackamas, Westview and West Salem, are all having terrific seasons, Grant is the only team in 6A without a loss and that vaults them to the top. But they will be tested this week as they look to hold onto that #1 spot. 3 crucial games against Barlow, McMinnville and Sherwood await the Generals this week and we’ll have our eyes glued on those scores.

Lakeridge suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday against a Sherwood team that has been a Top 10 program for us all season. The body of work the Pacers have put together speaks for itself and dropping to #2 might just be a temporary stop for them. With match-ups against Clackamas and Westview still remaining, it’s very realistic that Lakeridge vaults themselves back up to the top and finishes the season with an exclamation point.

Clackamas held on in a huge game against Westview and secured themselves a walk-off victory in dramatic fashion. Although they dropped a 0-1 match-up last week to #1 Grant, Clackamas has been absolutely dominant this season. They have lost 2 games by a combined total of 2 runs. Their match-up against Lakeridge today will be an intense atmosphere to say the least.

Westview goes to #4 after suffering their first loss after 7 straight victories. We’ll have more on their epic match-up against Clackamas in our Scout Blog.

West Salem holds strong at #5 with Mountain View at #6 again. Both had 2-1 weeks and sport identical records at 13-2. A lot will be on the line Friday, May 21st when these 2 squads finally square off against each other.

Sherwood’s last 3 games are nothing to scoff at. After splitting with McMinnville they knocked off Lakeridge and handed them their first loss of the season. Their final 2 games will be a challenge as well as they get Westview and Grant. We'll have more on their huge comeback win against McMinnville in our Scout Blog.

Sprague and Barlow have both been on a roll lately and climb back into the Top 10. Each of them finish with another Top 10 opponent on their schedule and will have the chance to finish their seasons with some decisive wins.

McMinnville had a big win over Jesuit then split with Sherwood. We’ll have more on that 2nd Sherwood game from Friday in our Scout Blog. They finish up with tough games against Wilson, Grant and Jesuit. All 3 of which have been in the Top 10 at some point this season

Monday Match-ups:

#9 Barlow at #1 Grant

#2 Lakeridge at #3 Clackamas

#4 Westview at #7 Sherwood

#10 McMinnville at Wilson
