DIAMOND NOTEs

You’ll be hard pressed to find a weekly performance as impressive as what RHP Isaac Hill (2022; Oregon State) did for Hidden Valley over their four-game stretch last week. Hill took the mound twice, starting the week’s opener and finale, striking out an absurd 28 batters in 12 innings of work. Hill’s first outing was a no-hitter and he allowed just one hit in his second start, failing to allow a run in either. At the plate, Hill tallied five hits, homering and doubling three times, and he brought two runners home as well. Hidden Valley is off to an undefeated 7-0 start and Hill is quickly making a Player of the Year case.

Just like he did in his first start of the season, RHP Noble Meyer (Jesuit, 2023) dominated yet again on the mound for the state’s top-ranked team. Meyer pitched nearly five flawless innings, allowing just one hit and a walk while punching out 10. He contributed at the plate as well, finishing the day with four hits right in the middle of Jesuit’s vaunted lineup.

RHP/C Parker Guinn (2023) had quite the week for McMinnville across their spring break trip. Guinn went 7-for-10 at the plate with three doubles, a home run, and seven RBIs. He locked down two saves and a win on the mound, totaling 7 ⅔ innings with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Guinn is currently a top-20 prospect in the state’s junior class and is currently uncommitted.

Mentioned in last week’s edition, SS/RHP Ky Hoskinson (2022; Cal State Bakersfield) was another standout for McMinnville this week. Hoskinson’s work on the mound earned him a mention during the season’s first taste of action and did so again here, as he punched out 13 batters in six innings of work while allowing just two hits. In their four game stretch Hoskinson went 6-for-13 with three doubles, two triples, and also scored nine runs.

Another name who’s put up numbers early on is SS/RHP Kaden Harris (Milwaukie, 2023). In the Springfield Tournament, Harris paced Milwaukie’s offense with eight RBIs and an 8-for-14 performance at the plate.

Strong week for Cascade Christian’s Owen Thompson at the plate, as he finished with six hits in total, four of which were doubles. He also drove in two runs and tossed five innings on the mound, striking out seven.

Senior MIF Camden Christenson (2022; Linn-Benton Community College) led the Sherwood offense on their Arizona trip. Christenson finished the week 10-for-15 with a double, two triples, and he walked three times. Christenson’s most impressive line this week came once he actually reached base, as he swiped nine bags and scored 10 runs in total.

Pendleton took home the championship in their spring tournament and did so largely because of what RHP/1B Easton Corey (Pendleton, 2023; Oregon State) brought to the table. Corey took the mound in their 4-3 extra-inning victory over Roseburg, striking out 11 batters and allowing just one earned run in 4 ⅓ innings. The rest of his production came at the plate, as Corey finished 7-for-14 with three doubles, a home run, and six RBIs. It was a productive showing for one of the state’s top juniors.

Backing Corey’s performance on the mound the following day was MIF/RHP Payton Lambert (Pendleton, 2023). The 6-foot, 165-pound junior, who’s also ranked inside the top-20 for our class of 2023 rankings, went the distance, striking out seven and holding Rex Putnam to just one hit. Lambert went 2-for-4 with a double in the game prior, too.
