DIAMOND NOTES

Two Ida B. Wells prospects had impressive showings last week: OF Davis Dufort (2022) and LHP/1B Quin Dufort (2024). The former batted .500 on the week, finishing with seven hits, including two doubles and a triple. The latter added six hits of his own and a pair of doubles as well, driving in five runs and scoring five times. Most notably, he didn’t allow a run across two starts on the mound, punching out 22 batters in 11 innings of work.

LHP Ian Umlandt (Sherwood, 2022; Oregon) put together a strong showing last week. One of the state’s top southpaws, Umlandt went six innings and struck out 10 batters, scattering four hits throughout his outing while allowing three earned runs.

LHP Nelson Keljo (Jesuit, 2022; Oregon State) and RHP Ty Alleman (Jesuit, 2023) pitched the Crusaders to a 2-0 victory over Lakeridge last week. Keljo drew the start and didn’t allow a hit through 4 ⅓ innings, punching out three and walking two. As he’s done thus far into the season, Alleman served as the Crusaders’ “stopper”, blanking the Pacers across 2 ⅔ scoreless innings for the save.

Despite taking the loss, LHP Paul Wilson (Lakeridge, 2023; Oregon State) asserted himself as the top prospect in Oregon’s junior class and one of the nation’s top junior southpaws. Wilson worked five innings against arguably the state’s top offensive unit, striking out nine batters and allowing two hits, both of which were solo shots. + For Shorewood, senior Brennan Wieg (2022) went 5-for-9 at the plate in their two games last week. Wieg doubled and homered, driving in four runs while stealing three bags, too.

Luke Anzellotti (2022) helped lead Central Catholic to a victory over top-ranked Jesuit last week. Anzellotti finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs, including a home run.

An early candidate for our state ‘Player of the Year’ honors, SS/RHP Ky Hoskinson (2022; Cal State Bakersfield) continues to get it done on both sides of the ball for McMinnville. His talents were especially evident on the mound this past week, as Hoskinson didn’t allow a run across six innings, striking out seven.

Hoskinson’s teammate, C/RHP Parker Guinn (2023), also turned in a quality start for the Grizzlies. Guinn didn’t allow an earned run either, striking out 11 batters and scattering three hits across six strong innings. He also went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs in their first game of the week.

RHP Peter Coakley (Sunset, 2022; Loras College) helped lead Sunset to an upset victory over top-ranked Jesuit. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound held one of the state’s potent offensive forces to an earned run across seven innings, striking out five.

Hidden Valley is rolling and RHP/3B Nate Vidlak (2022; College of Idaho) has been a big reason why thus far. Vidlak turned in an absolute gem on the mound last week, striking out seven batters across seven scoreless innings. He walked just two batters and allowed only three hits in the win.

MIF Camden Christenson (2022; Linn-Benton CC) continues to get it done offensively for Sherwood. The senior spark plug went 3-for-5 in two games, doubling twice and driving in four runs. He also walked four times, stole six bases, and scored six runs.

1B/RHP Logan Larrance (Tualatin, 2023) nearly led Tualatin to victory with his performance on the mound last week. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound uncommitted junior threw five scoreless innings, striking out 10 in the process. Just two baserunners reached base on his own doing, allowing a walk and a hit.

RHP Lupe Peralta (Cascade, 2022) threw a complete game one hitter in a 4-0 win over Philomath last Wednesday, striking out eight batters in total.
