Uncommitted Spotlight - '22 INF Ryan Jacob (Newberg)

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

On February 5th and 6th, the PBR Washington and Oregon staff hosted two of the winter’s most attended events: the Pacific Northwest Preseason All-State and the Pacific Northwest Preseason ID. These events featured 250+ participants from the 2022-to-2026 classes in total and provided our staff with an ample opportunity to get an up-close look at our region’s top players prior to the high school season commencing.

PBR events such as this provide players with the opportunity to build their profile with the most up-to-date information and video footage before heading into the off-season. All players in attendance receive an online profile with their verified statistics, player report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters.

Showcases help identify which prospects have asserted themselves towards the top of their class as well as who might be one of the next youngsters to emerge onto the scene. They also serve as potential identifiers for invite-only events such as our Future Games and Junior Future Games.

Today we're highlighting one of the top senior performances at the Preseason All-State event with '22 INF Ryan Jacob (Newberg).

Scouting Report

2/05/22

5-foot-10, 165 lbs with a compact frame and athletic build. Plus runner with easy speed. Gets underway & accelerates quickly. In the box, hits from a slightly narrow, upright stance with tall posture. Uses a short, quiet knee-knock load with a slight toe-tap. Hands stay at rear shoulder with a subtle scap load prior to launching swing. Smooth barrel action into contact with an uphill path. Easy bat speed with quickness in the hands. High finish after contact with loft. Defensively, moves well on his feet while maintaining body control and balance. Stays behind the ball then comes thru with momentum into the throw. Soft glove hand while receiving. Delivers from a ¾ slot with compact arm action. Clean exchange on the double play feed. One of the top athletes remaining on the board in the ‘22 class.
