Oregon Rankings Update - Class of 2027

Dylan Grenz
Associate Scout

As the travel ball and summer circuit nears an end, Prep Baseball Oregon concludes the three week stretch of Player Rankings Updates. From Summer ID events to our first ever PNW State Games, Prep Baseball staff saw hundreds of top high school prospects in the area throughout the summer months. Today, we unveil the Class of 2027 Rankings Update.

As always, the evaluation and rankings process is a fluid and ongoing ordeal, with multiple viewings needed to obtain the best feel for players abilities. It’s important to note that as players continue their development some show marked improvement at a much more rapid pace, and as a result will leapfrog other prospects in the list. This does not indicate that other players got worse or went backwards; this is simply the nature of player development. As the year unfolds, players make improvements and new prospects pop up on the radar expanding the Prep Baseball rankings universe.  In addition to the evaluations of players, our scouts, both those in Oregon and nationally, have also had multiple discussions with each other to review our individual lists and attempt to make the most informed rankings lists possible.

Featuring a total of 30 prospects, the Oregon class of 2027 list showcases a top end loaded with talent and an increasingly deep pool of prospects with upside. Below is our top 10 list and scouting notes on some of the top risers within the 2027 class.

Top Risers

#4 2027 RHP Harrison Buckingham (South Salem)
Buckingham shoots well into the top 10 after a loud performance at PBR's first ever PNW State Games. FB sat 86-88 MPH from a loose, fluid delivery. High spin on the FB gave added life to all quadrants. Breaking ball was 74-76 MPH with 2700+ RPM's throughout. Repeatable, low-effort delivery. Clear upside with a lean 6'2, 170 pound frame that should grow into more strength, leading to more velocity down the line. An exciting follow moving forward.

#10 2027 OF Gino Humphrey (South Eugene)
Compact strength present in medium frame. Bat stood out in BP rounds and in-game at PNW State Games with consistent hard contact generated throughout. Narrow stance from the RH side with a high leg kick load. Quick hands extend through contact with a longer, smooth one-hand finish. 7.16 runner. Minimal wasted movements in outfield on fielding approach, works through throws with a compact arm slot release.

#15 2027 RHP/INF Kellen Bowman (South Salem)
Versitile two-way athlete. Smooth LH swing starts in wide, balanced base. Stays connected throughout with tight levers. Generates loft to the pull side with plus bat speed. Smooth defender with enough arm to stick on the dirt. On the mound, the right hander sat 80-82 MPH working from an over-top slot release. Flashed 3-pitch mix, mixing in a CH and a loopy 12/6 CB. Filled up the zone.

#23 2027 INF/RHP Cameron Thomas (Sheldon)
Compact frame with two-way tools. Consistently squared up balls in BP rounds. Starts RH stance with weight stacked over rear leg in open setup. Rides back half and keeps head quiet through contact, resulting in a line drive approach to all fields. Smooth defensive actions, moving quick laterally and fielding ball at center of base. High 3/4 slot release with high gloveside follow. Also featured simple operation on the mound with over-top release. FB sat in the upper 70's. Intruiging follow moving forward.

#26 2027 OF Benjamin Wiepert (WIlsonville)
Long, lean athlete got multiple looks this summer, including at the PNW State Games. RH swing starts in slightly open, balanced stance. Short stride into flatter barrel path. Some bat speed present with potential for power with added strength. Natural athlete ran a 6.85 60-yard dash with quickness that translated to the outfield. Natural reads with minimal wasted movement, works through throws with a compact slot release.
