Top 10 High School Matchups

3/19 - Jesuit vs. Central Catholic

Two 6A powerhouses face off in a great early-season matchup. Jesuit is coming off of a 6A semifinals appearance and is the 5th ranked team in our Preseason Power 25 Rankings. Jesuit is headlined by junior Gonzaga commit INF/RHP Jacob Rolling. Senior arm and Linfield commit Johnathan Ingalls should eat a ton of innings on the mound. Jesuit also has a pair of big time senior bats to watch in Dillon Garg and Carter Stewart

Central Catholic comes into the year with high expectations, returning a bulk of their varsity roster with some impact talent coming in as well. Portland commit senior INF Aidan Rice will be the biggest player to circle for the Rams. Prep Baseball is also excited to see what Sam Smith can do in his freshman season. Smith is the number one ranked 2028 in the state. Two teams with talented rosters and plenty of familiarity make this a great game to kick off the spring.

3/20 - West Linn vs. Sunset

A rematch of the 6A state championship game last spring will have plenty of draw, as the two teams will once again be title contenders in 2025. West Linn enters the season as three-time 6A state champions. They are headlined by 2025 OF and Oregon commit Danny Wideman, who should once again be a top-tier bat. Senior LHP and Gonzaga commit Carson Boyer will be a force on the mound, and junior Ryan Hemsley is another key piece to watch.

Sunset is headlined by the reigning Prep Baseball Oregon Player of the Year in LHP/1B and Tennesee commit Kruz Schoolcraft. The 6'8 senior is one of the most physically imposing and dominant players in the PNW. The Apollos feature a deep and experienced side, including senior Portland commit Dakota Chun as well as transfer and USC Upstate commit Gabriel Coltman. A state title rematch with the #1 and #2 ranked preseason teams make this matchup a must-watch.

3/20 - Sam Barlow vs. Ida B. Wells

A top-25 matchup featuring some exciting arms earns this matchup a spot in the top ten. Barlow enters the 2025 season as the 6th ranked team in Prep Baseball's Power 25 Rankings. They are headlined by senior RHP and LSU commit River Hamilton. The senior is a special arm talent that has MLB Draft upside, running his fastball into the mid-90's. Sophomore Amari Reynolds is another headliner after securing first team all-state honors in his freshman season.

Wells graduates some big time talent, but still should be a productive 6A side. Seniors Cody Roletto and Ian Kolmer are quality bats that return after successful junior seasons. Prep Baseball was very impressed this preseason by sophomore LHP Jack Burnham, who has the ability to step up in a big way on the mound. Junior RHP Walter Robinson also had a nice preseason look and could get more innings. Some exciting arms and quality teams earns this matchup a spot on the list.

4/1 - Scappoose vs. Warrenton

It isn't often that two state champions face each other the following season, but these two sides will make it happen this spring. 4A state champions Scappoose will lean on senior RHP/INF and Portland commit Joe Fagan, who was instrumental for them last season. A strong senior class will also feature returners Quinton Olson and Max Nowlin.

3A state champions Warrenton return a bulk of their roster, led by senior brothers Talon McGrorty and Tyson McGrorty. Both are Linn-Benton CC commits with championship experience. Senior Ryder Sturgell will be another important player for the Warriors. Two sides with aspirations to repeat as state champions will meet in an early-season faceoff.

4/1 - Thurston vs. West Albany

Another title rematch earns a spot in the top ten, this time in the form of 5A champs Thurston vs. runners-up West Albany. Thurston is led by a pair of D-1 commits in senior Oregon commit Connor Molony and junior Oregon State commit Grady Saunders. Junior Brock Johnson is ranked 6th in his class and is a massive talent. The Colts have depth and should be right in the mix for a 5A title again.

West Albany loses much more of their state championship roster, but will still be a competitive, quality 5A side with some returners. Senior RHP/SS Drew Rice will be a two-way piece to circle. Junior OF Blake Linton is another key player that should produce at the top of the lineup. Prep Baseball will certainly be watching to see who takes this 5A title game rematch.

4/9 - South Salem vs. Lakeridge

Two teams Prep Baseball are bullish on meet in an intruiging matchup this April. South Salem features several top-end players. Junior C and Oregon State commit Teagan Scott is the number one ranked 2026 in the state. Junior LMU commit Sawyer Nelson is a dynamic athlete, and '27 RHP Harrison Buckingham has been shooting up the rankings as a standout arm.

Lakeridge may be poised to make one of the biggest leaps in record this spring. Top-ranked 2027 INF and Oregon commit Manny Ehinger headlines the Pacers. Ehinger is a dynamic athlete seen at Prep Baseball's Preseason All-State event. Senior Tyler Truong is a power bat to be wary of, and junior OF Andrew Ha had a nice look this preseason. Expect these two sides to both be dominant this spring.

4/15 - Summit vs. Ridgeview

Both of these teams feature a great mix of experienced upperclassman and dynamic freshman, earning the matchup a spot in the top ten. Summit features the number two ranked senior and Vanderbilt commit OF Slater de Brun, an exceptional athlete. Senior RHP and Portland commit Alexander Via is a key arm. Two top-ten freshman could make an immediate impact in Evan Guadalupe and Ryker Hartlaub.

Ridgeview enters the season as the 12th ranked squad on our Preseason Power 25. The Ravens have a nice mix of experience and youth, with senior Portland commit Logan Nakamura at the forefront. Top-ten ranked sophomore Diego Lopez will man an infield spot, while a pair of top-ten freshman could make an impact in Ryker Combs and Bennett Wyatt

5/9 - Clackamas vs. Sandy

Another Power 25 matchup cracks the list as #19 Clackamas faces #15 Sandy. Clackamas features a trio of exciting sophomore arms in Ben Foglio, Jaxon Wetzler and Cade King. Junior Nolan Foglio is one of the biggest returners and should be a key bat. The upside of the arms could make Clackamas a surprise contender.

Sandy has some arms to circle as well this spring, with multiple experienced arms returning. Senior RHP and Lower Columbia Fisher Winchester will likely be SP1, while senior RHP Brayden Sievertsen is another key returner. Several other seniors with college commitments make up the lineup, making Sandy a team to watch. Two-pitching heavy teams face off in a late-season intriguing game.

5/13 - North Medford vs. Grants Pass

Two of the strongest teams in Southern Oregon meet late in the season in a fun matchup. North Medford are led by senior RHP/INF and Linn-Benton CC commit Dominic Daffron, an exciting two-way player. Senior outfielder Easton Curtis is another returner to watch. The Black Tornado made it to the first round of 6A state playoffs in 2024 and will look to advance further this season.

Grants Pass returns much of their varsity roster from last spring. Senior INF and Northwest Nazarene commit Jace McGowan is a talented player with the bat and glove. Juniors Evan Valenzuela and Nathan Bassett both impressed at Prep Baseball preseason events. The Cavemen enter 2025 as the 14th ranked team in the Power 25. Two great programs in Southern Oregon earn a top-ten matchup this season.

5/13 - Tualatin vs. Lake Oswego

Multi-sport rivals facing off with potential playoff implications earn this matchup the final spot on our list. Tualatin is ranked 7th on our Preseason Power 25. Perhaps no team will be impacted more by transfers, headlined by 2026 Oregon commit Trenton Hertzog. Sophomore Kye Leenders is another transfer with two-way upside. Senior Portland commit Isaac Pfeifer will provide leadership from the catching position. Another senior to be wary of is Tacoma CC commit Brayden Buck, a power bat.

Lake Oswego is the 9th ranked team in our Power 25, and despite graduating many varsity players should still be a strong team. The Lakers are led by senior RHP Harrison Smith on the mound, and senior RHP/INF Elliott Wear on both sides of the ball. Some juniors that could step up into bigger roles include OF Caden Gerritz and C Carsten Lemon. Expect this series to have high stakes as two high-quality 6A sides face off.
