The 2014 Future Prospects Showcase is exactly one month away. The annual event gives current middle school players an opportunity to be introduced to how a showcase is run and offers an opportunity to take a glimpse at players that may sit atop the state player rankings in years to come. Today we take a look back at some of the top prospects to participate in last year's inaugural event and what they have done in the year since.

BaughmanDrew Baughman, C/3B, Class of 2018, Cumberland Valley HS

2013 Player Analysis: Baughman is a 6-foot, 165-pound prospect who is currently in 7th grade. He had a memorable 2012 baseball season, hitting a total of 52 home runs. Baughman put on an offensive show from both sides of the plate. He showcased the top bat exit speed of the day with an impressive 89 mph. From the right side of the plate Baughman showed excellent rhythm and extension that allowed him to drive baseballs repeatedly. From the left side of the plate his swing was a bit longer and less developed, but he showed the potential to be a legitimate power threat from both sides in the future. As he continues to grow and mature, Baughman has the potential to be a highly recruited player in the Class of 2018.

Update: Baughman is now 6-foot-2, 205-pounds. The current 8th grader spent the 2013 spring/summer playing for Evoshield Canes North 13u and was the 2013 USSSA North East Super NIT Home Run Derby Champion (Salisbury MD). Baughman also played for  GOWAGS HEAT 13u and was selected for Team Pennsylvania for USA Baseball NTIS (North Atlantic).

Braxton GiavedoniBraxton Giavedoni, OF/C, Class of 2016, Punxsutawney HS

2013 Player Analysis: Giavedoni was the runaway star of the Western PA Future Prospects Showcase. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound OF was easily the most impressive hitter of the day. He showed quick hands and the ability to drive the baseball with an 82 mph bat exit speed. A cousin of Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco, Giavedoni was named to the WWBA 14U Nationals All-Tournament Team in 2012. Giavedoni is definitely a player to watch in the Class of 2016.

Update: Giavedoni is currently ranked No. 12 in PA and No. 89 in the PBR combined Class of 2016 rankings. A year later, Giavedoni is now 5-foot-11, 175-pounds and is coming off a freshman season in which he hit .348 and was 3-for-7 with two runs scored and an RBI during post-season play.

Maxx HarpalaniMaxx Harpalani, 3B/OF, Class of 2017, Pine Richland HS

2013 Player Analysis: Harpalani showed advanced offensive skills with a bat exit speed of 73 mph. The athletic 5-foot-8, 145-pound prospect showed good barrel whip and extension that produced consistent line drives. His short stroke was fluid and allowed him to repeatedly square the baseball.

Update: Harpalani has shown continual progress over the past year. As one of the youngest players at the PA Underclass Games this past July, Harpalani went 1-for-6 with a sacrifice fly in game play. The right-handed hitter has increased his bat exit velocity by nearly 10 mph this year to 82 mph. Harpalani also displayed a developing 80 mph arm from the outfield.

Mason NadeauMason Nadeau, OF/SS, Class of 2016, North Penn HS

2013 Player Analysis: Nadeau is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound left-handed hitter who showed an advanced approach to hitting for a player his age. He does an excellent job of staying behind the baseball and driving the ball to all fields. Nadeau showcased great rhythm and extension to his swing along with extremely quick hands. The North Penn HS freshman is a sub-7.0 runner who has the athleticism to impact the Knights line-up in 2013.

Update: Nadeau was the starting LF for North Penn in the Class AAAA state finals last spring and will be a member of Team Pennsylvania this summer at the PBR Future Games in Indiana. Now at 5-foot-10, 155-pounds, Nadeau showed well recently at the Preseason All-State Showcase on Day One of the two day event.
