           Brandon Birkhead

PBR: What type of training did you do this past winter to prepare for the high school season?
Birkhead:  I worked out on Sunday’s with the Philly Bandits and Coach Dave Amaro. I played basketball for Pennsbury High School so I was committed to my hoops team every day. I weight trained for baseball with leg, shoulder and core workouts to prepare for high school baseball.

PBR: Now that your sophomore season is coming to a close what do you plan to do over the next 18 months to catch the eyes of college scouts?
Birkhead: I want to continue to work hard in the classroom to improve my GPA and take pre SAT courses in the fall to have the best possible score. I will also continue to work on my velocity, foot speed, fielding, hitting and knowledge of the game so when I attend recruiting showcases I will be in the best possible condition physically (skills wise) and mentally.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from last summer?
Birkhead: The summer of 2012 I will play for the Midland Braves and in the end of May will play a few tournaments with the Philly Bandits. My most memorable experience from last summer was playing with the Mid Atlantic Canes in East Cobb, Ga. and playing in the Prospectwire Underclass All American games at UCF stadium in Orlando, Florida.

PBR: What position do you anticipate playing in college?
Birkhead: Pitcher, first base and third base. I currently play all three positions and will play whichever position a college has a need for me to play.

PBR: What is your current GPA?
Birkhead: My current GPA is 3.0.

PBR: What’s the biggest baseball event or tournament on your calendar in the coming months?
Birkhead: I will play for the Midland Braves 17U in Cincinnatti, Ohio throughout June and July playing primarily in 18U tournaments. Also, I will play for Team Pennsylvania in the Prep Baseball Report Midwest Futures Games powered by Under Armour that will take place on August 3-5 at the University of Illinois’ baseball complex in Champaign, IL.

PBR: Who is the toughest player in your class that you have played against or with?
Birkhead: Tim Turner from Akron, Ohio. I played with Tim on the Mid Atlantic Canes. Tim was hit by a pitch almost every game and his diving catches in Cincinnatti and Pittsburgh Pastime tournaments were unbelievable.
