2016 PAISAA Fab Four (mid-April update)

The independent schools kick off the first in-season update of our preseason team projections. Our PAISAA Fab Four represents the schools we believe would reach the final day of competition (in bracket order), if the PAISAA tournament, which plays its semifinals and championship on the same day, were to be conducted starting today.

Seed School Record Notes
1 Malvern Prep 14-1 Perennial favorite just keeps rolling along behind a deep pitching staff that is allowing 2.7 runs/game and has posted a nearly three-to-one K:BB ratio.
4 The Haverford School
 13-3 The Fords have posted a 6-1 record so far in April, with the only blemish being a closer-than-the-score-indicates 9-4 loss to Malvern Prep.
3 Springside Chestnut Hill
 9-2 There is a lot still to be learned about the Blue Devils, who have played seven of their games against out-of-state competition, but a 2-0 start in Inter-Ac play, a solid 1-2 rotation punch, and a line-up that can force the action with its speed bode well going forward.
2 Perkiomen School
 8-1 The back-to-back PAISAA runner-up recorded two one-run wins over Inter-Ac opponents to start the season and has, as expected, dominated the remainder of its opponents. Schedule gets tougher the rest of the way with double-headers on tap against the other four Inter-Ac schools highlighting the slate.

Others to Watch
William Penn Charter (9-4) - The Quakers tumble from the projected 2-seed following a 2-3 record to start the month of April, including an 0-2 start in the Inter-Ac. Team is still arguably the most talented around, so is still very dangerous.

Mercersburg Academy (11-2) - Like SCHA, the Blue Storm has played the majority of its games against out-of-state competition. Unlike SCHA, however, it will continue to do so, with the bulk of its schedule featuring opponents from West Virginia and New Jersey. Both losses are by one run.

Episcopal Academy (7-7) - Young team that can be dangerous at times (see win over perennial NJ power Christian Brothers Academy), but has hovered around the .500 mark most of the season.

Germantown Academy (6-4-1) - Has played seven games against out-of-state competition and is 0-3 vs the current Fab Four. One-run losses to the projected 1- and 2-seeds.
