Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

The 2017 Western PA Top Prospect Games are just two weeks away and limited roster spots remain to be filled.  Leading up to the July 18 & 19 event hosted at the Iron Horse Sports Complex in Windber, PA we will be spotlighting players scheduled to participate.  CLICK HERE to view the finalized roster, pitching rotations and schedule.

Today we take a look at Nate Beimel, a 2019 LHP/1B from St. Marys Area HS who has been up to 87 mph off the bump this summer.  The two-way prospect will play outfield at this event because of roster configurations, but normally plays first base when not on the hill.

Scouting Report

2/12/17 6-foot-2, 185-pounder has added significantly to his frame over the past 18 months leading to a 6-7 mph spike in fastball velocity. Lefty sat 81-83 from a high 3/4 arm slot with an aggressive leg kick to near should height. Fastball showed late, natural cut and was commanded down in the zone. Curveball showed tight 1/7 rotation at 64-67 and changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed with some fade at 69-71.

2/12/17 Primary pitcher has added three inches and 10 pounds to his frame over the past 18 months. Left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a low leg-lift stride. Showcased a high hands load and ability to stay behind baseball well while squaring baseballs to all fields during a solid round of batting practice. Registered an 84 mph bat exit velocity and showed a soft glove hand defensively with accurate 81 mph arm strength across the diamond.

6/30/15 5-foot-11, 175-pound left-handed hitting primary pitcher. Starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short lift and replace stride. High hands load leads to a flat barrel path and a stiff back side with a bat exit velocity of 74 mph. Solid feel for the barrel with some looseness to his swing that should continue to improve with strength gains. Showcased an 8.94 60-yard dash and an accurate 69 mph arm across the diamond with a soft glove hand around the first base bag.

6/30/15 5-foot-11, 175-pound two-way prospect. Sat 75-76 from a 3/4 arm slot with a side-rocker step that initiates his delivery. 65 mph curveball shows tight 1/7 rotation 68 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed. Projectable frame with some looseness to his arm action should see significant velocity gains in coming years.
