2018 PBR Future Games Preview: Team Pennsylvania Pitchers

Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

2018 marks the 7th year that Pennsylvania will be represented in the PBR Future Games. This one-of-a-kind event will feature the best uncommitted Class of 2020 & select 2021 prospects from our 35-plus state coverage area. The Future Games will take place on August 1 - 4 (Wednesday-Saturday) at Grand Park, a state-of-the-art 22-field baseball complex located in Westfield, IN, just north of Indianapolis.

The Prep Baseball Report Future Games is the premier summer scouting event for Class of 2020/2021 prospects. Last year, more than 250 college coaches from all over the country were in attendance, making it arguably the most heavily recruited event of the summer.

Today we conclude a preview of the 19 prospects that will represent the Keystone State as members of Team Pennsylvania with a look at seven pitchers that will toe the rubber.

Team Pennsylvania pitchers

Cam Burris RHP / OF / St. Joseph's Catholic Academy, PA / 2020

2018 Eastern PA Top Prospect Games
6-foot-1, 200-pound righty has made a significant jump since we saw him last in October of 2017. 25 pounds heavier, Burris has begun to take on his mature frame and it has translated to a velo jump on the mound. He sat 83-85 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery. Worked three impressive innings allowing just an infield hit and a walk. Struck out four and was in command of all three pitches. His fastball showed late life with arm-side run while his changeup displayed similar movement with good arm speed at 75-77. His curveball with tight 11/5 rotation at 74-76 has a chance to be a solid out pitch at the next level. Repeatable mechanics and strong durable frame should lead to additional velocity spikes moving forward.

Tony DeLawrence LHP / Perkiomen Valley, PA / 2020

2017 Elite Prospect Showcase
6-foot, 175-pound lefty worked solely out of the stretch sitting 83-85 with late life and arm side run to his fastball out of a high 3/4 arm slot. A high knee stack and hip coil provides deception. Displayed an explosive leg drive and quick arm with solid command of three pitches. Changeup is thrown with intent showing similar run at 75-78. Curveball is an above average third pitch with 1/7 rotation at 65-67. Projects to add incremental velocity as his athletic frame continues to mature.

Zach Garlinger RHP / OF / East Pennsboro, PA / 2020

2017 Eastern PA College Prospect Showcase
Lanky 6-foot-2, 150-pound primary pitcher appears to be just beginning to reach his physical maturity. Sat 82-85 from a high 3/4 arm slot with plenty more in the tank once he learns to better incorporate his glove side of his body into his motion. Stays balanced and directional with slight cut to his fastball. Curveball has a chance to be an out pitch at 70-72 with tight 11/5 rotation. Changeup is still in development. When he did not spike the pitch it sat 74-76 with some sink.

Wyatt Henseler 3B / RHP / Emmaus , PA / 2020

2018 Preseason All-State Showcase
6-foot, 180-pound two-way prospect turned in one of the top performances of any player in attendance over the course of the two day event. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing. Displayed current power with the ability to create back spin and a bat exit velocity of 95 mph. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash and flashed 90 mph arm strength across the diamond from third base defensively. Showcased a soft glove hand and an ability to play through the baseball while making the slow roller play look routine. The right-hander was just as impressive on the mound sitting 87-88 from a high 3/4 arm slot working solely out of the stretch. Long, loose arm motion with some hip coil in the stack that adds to deception. Curveball showed 11/5 rotation at 71-72 with occasional two-plane break. Changeup sat 75-77 with some sink at fastball arm speed.

Luke Holman RHP / SS / Wyomissing, PA / 2021

PBR Evaluation & Measurables Showcase (12.30.17)
6-foot-1, 170-pound primary pitcher flashed athleticism in a frame that is just beginning to mature. The freshman sat 80-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with an easy, repeatable delivery. While it is easy to dream on a ceiling for fastball velocity it is Holman's two secondary pitches that will make him a highly coveted pitching recruit in this class. The curveball is thrown with an advanced spin rate and shows sharp two-plane break at 67-69. Holman also commands an advanced splitter at 66-69 that showed consistent arm-side run and sink.

Michael Kilker RHP / SS / Hazleton Area , PA / 2021

2018 Eastern PA Top Prospect Games
Athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. Primary pitcher sat 83-85 while touching 86-87 at times during his three innings of work. Starts his delivery with a short, side-rocker step and delivers from a mid-3/4 arm slot. Changeup is thrown with above average sell at 75-77 and curveball has good depth at 71-73. Very live arm that is likely to be upper 80s by this time next year. Two-way prospect ran a 7.60 60-yard dash and displayed 82 mph arm strength defensively. Size and defensive actions would be best suited for an eventual move to third base. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and he initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed an above average feel for the baseball in BP with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Went 5-for-7 with a triple in game action over two days.

Caleb Martin RHP / 2B / Honesdale, PA / 2020

2018 Northeast Pride Workout (6.16.18)
Solid athlete at 6-foot-0 185 pounds; the RHP was recently up to 88 MPH and works in the 84-86 MPH range. Abbreviated delivery with quick separation of the glove; arm speed happens in a hurry. Talented prospect that also projects positionally.
