2018 Preseason All-State Showcase Analysis: Class of 2020 Two-way Players

94 prospects showcased their abilities over the two days of the 2018 Preseason All-State Showcase. 
Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at two-way players in the Class of 2020.

Top Prospect

Wyatt HenselerWyatt Henseler, 2020, 3B/RHP, Emmaus
6-foot, 180-pound two-way prospect turned in one of the top performances of any player in attendance over the course of the two day event. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing. Displayed current power with the ability to create back spin and a bat exit velocity of 95 mph. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash and flashed 90 mph arm strength across the diamond from third base defensively. Showcased a soft glove hand and an ability to play through the baseball while making the slow roller play look routine. The right-hander was just as impressive on the mound sitting 87-88 from a high 3/4 arm slot working solely out of the stretch. Long, loose arm motion with some hip coil in the stack that adds to deception. Curveball showed 11/5 rotation at 71-72 with occasional two-plane break. Changeup sat 75-77 with some sink at fastball arm speed. Henseler was added to the Team Pennsylvania roster for the 2018 PBR Future Games shortly after the event.

Andrew Cantwell, 2020, LHP/OF, Marple Newtown
5-foot-9, 155-pound primary pitcher sat 76-78 from a 3/4 arm slot with hip coil to his delivery. Curveball showed 1/7 rotation at 60-62 with solid depth. Telegraphs arm speed with slower arm speed at 62-64. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash and showcased 75 mph arm strength from his outfield position defensively while consistently playing through the baseball. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a knee-to-knee stride. Showcased a line drive approach with a 76 mph bat exit velocity.

Braiden Hitchings, 2020, OF/RHP, Cedar Crest
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to start his swing from a high-hands load. Demonstrated a feel for the barrel with the ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 7.08 60-yard dash and showcased a long arm throwing motion from the outfield with 83 mph arm strength while routinely playing through the baseball. Right-hander sat 79-80 on the mound from a 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, repeatable delivery. Curveball showed 10/4 rotation at 66-69. Changeup displays some sink at 70-71 with a slower arm speed than fastball.

Jon McCullough, 2020, RHP/3B, Seneca Valley
6-foot-3, 180-pound primary pitcher sat 81-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with late life to his fastball. Balanced, repeatable mechanics with a projectable frame that has plenty of room for added growth. Changeup is an excellent pitch at 73-75 with sink and arm side run thrown at fastball arm speed. Slider sat 74-75 with late, short break. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a line drive approach with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Showcased 84 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively with clean, fundamental actions at third base.

Andrew Nole, 2020, C/RHP, Avon Grove
6-foot-1, 180-pound primary catcher showcased pop times of 2.08-2.17 on throws of 70 mph from the crouch. Left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing from a low-hands load with a short lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a flat barrel path through the zone with an ability to create back spin and a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.24 60-yard dash. Right-hander sat 82-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a max effort delivery. Curveball spins at 74-75 and changeup shows some slight run and sink at 75-77.

Domenic Popa, 2020, OF/LHP, Seton-La Salle Catholic
5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Hands work very well through contact and displayed an ability to drive both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 6.92 60-yard dash. Left-hander sat 75-78 from a 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, fluid delivery. Curveball shows biting 1/7 rotation at 66-68 and changeup is thrown with good sell and some sink at 69-70.

Tyler Thompson, 2020, RHP/OF, Cumberland Valley
5-foot-10, 160-pound primary pitcher sat 83-85 from a balanced, repeatable deliver with a long arm motion. Fastball shows considerable arm side run and occasional sink. Curveball displays cutter action at 73-74 and changeup is thrown at near-fastball arm speed with sink at 74-76. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride and an aggressive hip turn. Displayed a solid feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Showcased 87 mph arm strength from his outfield position while routinely playing through the baseball.

Kyle Mahady, 2020, RHP/SS, Nazareth Area
5-foot-11, 175-pound primary pitcher sat 76-80 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, repeatable delivery. Curveball displayed slider action at 66-70 and changeup is thrown with good sell at 68-71 with slight arm side run. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a direct swing path and a solid feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Displayed solid actions defensively with confidence in his glove hand and 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. Long arm motion will need to be shortened up or a move to 3B will be likely.

Christian Quinn, 2020, 1B/LHP, Harriton
6-foot-1, 200-pound switch hitter stars from a square stance and utilizes a toe tap stride to initiate his left-handed swing. Displayed good rhythm and balance with present power and a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Right-handed swing is nearly as strong with a leg-lift stride initiating the lower half. Similar barrel awareness exists with some present power and solid balance. Displayed capable glove work around the bag at first base and registered 74 mph arm strength across the diamond. Left-hander sat 72-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Curveball displayed 1/7 rotation at 66-71 and changeup was thrown at near fastball arm speed at 68-71.

Carter Rieben, 2020, SS/RHP, Downingtown West
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Loads hands deep and away from body leading to scooping the baseball. Registered a 75 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and routinely played through the baseball with accurate 73 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively. Right-hander sat 73-76 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, repeatable delivery. Curveball showed 11/5 rotation at 62-65 and changeup was thrown at near fastball arm speed with some sink and arm side run at 66-68.

Jarod Wade, 2020, SS/RHP, Malvern Prep
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to start his swing. Showcased above average rhythm and balance to his swing with a solid feel for the barrel and a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.33 60-yard dash and flashed fluid defensive actions with confidence in his glove hand. Flashed active feet, good range and the ability to make throws from multiple arm angles. Right-hander sat 78-80 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short arm swing and some cut to his fastball. Curveball shows slider action at 66-67 and changeup is an advanced pitch thrown with good sell and sink at 70-71.
