Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

A total of 47 prospects from across the state took part on the first of two days of action yesterday in the 2018 Preseason All-State Showcase. Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim will once again play host today to an additional 47 players to conclude the event.

All players in attendance will be evaluated by position and by class in articles over the coming week. For now here are some quick highlights from the day.

Day ONE Highlights (1/27/18)

  • Day One action began with a bang when 2019 outfielder Albert Choi (Downingtown East), flirted with an event record in the 60-yard dash turning in a laser timed 6.48. The previous record was set in 2017 by Pittsburgh recruit Kyle Hess (Donegal) who will be participating in the PBR Super 60 Showcase on February 4th in Chicago. Choi also impressed with the bat registering a 90 mph bat exit velocity during a solid round of batting practice.
  • 2019 shortstop Tom Snipes (Penn Charter) also stood out during the first session of the day. The left-handed hitter impressed during his round of batting practice with present power and a 90 mph bat exit velocity. Snipes also flashed fluid defensive actions with above average arm strength and ran a 7.03 60-yard dash.
  • A pair of 2020 prospects stole the show during session two. 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher John Seibert (Warwick) impressed with present power in his right-handed swing with a bat exit velocity of 95 mph. Seibert flashed advanced defensive tools with 77 mph arm strength from the crouch and pop times of 2.00-2.06. Seibert completed his well-rounded day by running a 6.80 60-yard dash. 6-foot, 180-pound 3B/RHP Wyatt Henseler (Emmaus) was nearly as impressive. The two-way prospect showcased advanced 90 mph arm strength across the diamond before stepping on the mound and sitting 87-88. The right-hander also impressed with current pop in his bat during one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day while registering a 95 mph bat exit velocity.
  • Two-way prospect Ryan Kutz (Lower Dauphin), No. 85 in the PA Class of 2019, has impressed at previous events with his two-way abilities. Stepping to the mound in one of the final bullpen rotations of the day, Kutz improved his stock dramatically sitting 86-88. A year ago at this time Kutz sat in the low 80s. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound right-hander also took an eye catching round of batting practice and registered a bat exit velocity of 92 mph.
  • 6-foot-2, 190-pound OF Brendan O'Donnell (Great Valley), No. 43 in the PA Class of 2019, turned in arguably the most well-rounded day of any player in attendance. The right-handed hitter turned heads with a loud round of batting practice and a 91 mph bat exit velocity. O'Donnell also flashed 90 mph arm strength from the outfield, ran a 6.89 60-yard dash and topped at 84 mph off the bump.
