2019 Preseason All-State Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

The 2019 Preseason All-State Showcase took place February 16th and 17th at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manhiem. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary corner infielders.

Top Prospects

Maddix Dalena, Montoursville HS, Class of 2022, 1B
6-foot-3, 220-pound left-handed hitter took one of the more impressive rounds of batting practice over the two days of the event, showcasing present power to the pull side and the ability to stay in the zone for long periods of time. He starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to begin his swing. Showed rhythm and balance with a solid feel for the barrel. Registered a 91 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.86 60-yard dash. Displayed capable feet and glove work around the bag at first base with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. Definite power bat to follow in this class.

Christian Quinn, HarritonHS, Class of 2020, 1B
6-foot-1, 210-pound switch-hitter showcased similar swings from both sides of the plate with present power. Starts from a square stance and initiates a strong lower half with a lift-and-replace stride from the left side. Showed above average balance with hands working well through extension creating backspin routinely. Displayed a middle of the field approach from the right side of the plate while utilizing a leg-hang stride. Registered a 90 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.57 60-yard dash. Moves well around the bag at first base and shows a soft glove hand. Recorded 83 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Collin Campbell, Gettysburg Area HS, Class of 2020, 3B
5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. An arm bar leads to some barrel drag with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Showcased active feet and confidence in his glove hand defensively with accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond. Ran a 7.21 60-yard dash.

Tyler Dunn, Cumberland Valley HS, Class of 2021, 1B
5-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilized a lift-and-replace stride to begin. Showcased a quiet lower half and the ability to stay in the zone for an above average period of time during a solid round of batting practice. Registered a 79 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.04 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic actions around the bag at first base with accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond. 

Jameson Ford, William Penn Charter, Class of 2020, 1B
6-foot-2, 215-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with no stride. Displayed raw potential with present power when he puts everything together on time. Registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and ran a 7.75 60-yard dash. Showcased capable footwork and glove around the bag at first base with accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Daniel Gonzalez, Lancaster Catholic HS, Class of 2019, 3B
5-foot-10, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to start his swing. Showcased balance and a feel for the barrel with a tendency to roll over on this date. Registered a bat exit velocity of 88 mph and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. Displayed active feet defensively with a confidence in his glove hand and showed 85 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Cole Hertzler, Boyertown Area HS, Class of 2021, 3B
6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitter with a very projectable frame. Starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a balanced approach with some present power and a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. Ran a 7.42 60-yard dash and displayed active feet defensively while routinely playing through the baseball with good carry on throws of 89 mph across the diamond.

Brayden Horton, West Allegheny HS, Class of 2021, 3B/RHP
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased balance and rhythm to his swing with some present gap power. Registered an 87 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Displayed active feet and accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Sat 79-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also showed a two-seam fastball at 75-76, a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 64-66 and a changeup with sollid arm speed at 72-73.

Kase James, Cumberland Valley HS, Class of 2022, 1B/LHP
5-foot-11, 195-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased above average feel for the barrel with balance throughout his swing. Registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.85 60-yard dash. Displayed capable footwork with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively. The lefty sat 75-76 out of a 3/4 arm slot with some sink to his fastball on the mound. Also showed a feel for his curveball with 2/8 shape at 64-66 and a changeup with cut at 69-70.

Marcus LaBuda, Hazleton Area HS, Class of 2021, 1B
6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to begin. Stays behind the baseball well and showed a fell for the barrel during a solid round of batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 88 mph and ran a 7.62 60-yard dash. Displayed active feet and a soft glove hand defensively with accurate 83 mph arm strength across the diamond. 

Michael May, Solanco HS, Class of 2020, 3B
6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Displayed a flat barrel path through the zone and the ability to use all field with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 7.32 60-yard dash and showcased active feet with a confidence in his glove hand defensively with accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Scotty McManamon, Central Dauphin HS, Class of 2020, 3B
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with an abbreviated lift-and-replace stride. Displayed an upper half driven swing with an ability to use all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 90 mph and ran a 6.92 60-yard dash. Displayed the ability to make throws from multiple arm angles with a tendency to field the ball flat footed. Recorded 78 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Aaden Newman, Chambersburg HS, Class of 2021, 1B
6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to begin. Stays behind the baseball well and in the zone for an extend period of time creating back spin. Showed some gap power with a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Ran a 7.28 60-yard dash and showcased capable actions around the bag at first base with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Ethan Phillips, Red Land HS, Class of 2021, 3B
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, square stance and uses a controlled leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Showcased balance throughout with a feel for the barrel during a solid round of batting practice. Registered an 84 mph bat exit velocity and ran an 8.01 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and capable actions defensively with 71 mph arm strength across the diamond. 

Jake Plummer, Conrad Weiser HS, Class of 2021, 1B
6-foot-5, 220-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a controlled lift-and-replace stride to begin his swing. Showed above average feel for the barrel with a bit of barrel wrap in his load. Current power to pull side with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Potential to develop into a middle of the order bat at the next level. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash and showcased capable glove work around the bag at first base with accurate 71 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Aidan Sturtevant, Cocalico HS, Class of 2021, 3B/RHP
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed some lower half drift but manages to be on time to the hitting zone routinely with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Showcased active feet and solid lateral range with accurate 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. Ran a 7.23 60-yard dash and sat 75-78 on the mound with some arm-side run out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Begins his delivery with some hip swivel and stays in line to the plate. Also showed a curveball with short 11/5 break at 69-70 and a changeup with good arm speed at 71-72.
