A total of 53 prospects from across the state took part on the first of two days of action yesterday in the 2019 Preseason All-State Showcase. Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim will once again play host today to an additional 59 players to conclude the event.

Complete statistics for all players in attendance over the course of two days along with top measurable performances will be released on Tuesday. Player evaluations by position will appear as well in articles over the coming week. For now here are some quick highlights from the Day One.

Day ONE Highlights (2/16/19) 

• Day One action began with a bang when 2021 shortstop Spencer Butz (York Suburban), the first runner to run in Session One, turned in the top 60-yard dash of the day with a laser timed 6.55. The current even record was set in 2017 by Pittsburgh freshman Kyle Hess (Donegal) with a time of 6.44.
• 1B Maddix Dalena (Montoursville) also turned heads in Session One with easy present power in his left-handed swing. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound prospect registered a 90 mph bat exit velocity and showcased the ability to consistently drive the baseball while staying inside the baseball. Dalena will be an interesting follow in the Class of 2022.
• Session Two action was highlighted by a pair of underclassmen getting it done with distinctly different body types. LHP/OF Ty Federici (Lake-Lehman), ranked No. 1 in the PA Class of 2022, served notice that he is more than just a talented pitcher. Federici took the loudest round of batting practice on the day, driving baseballs with authority to all fields while registering the top bat exit velocity of the day at 100 mph. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound right-handed hitter also flashed 93 mph arm strength from the outfield and topped at 90 mph off the mound. 5-foot-6, 140-pound SS/RHP Derek Cease (Nanticoke Area) was equally as impressive. The 2018 Team Pennsylvania PBR Junior Future Games participant ran a 6.59 60-yard dash, showcased eye popping 93 mph arm strength across the diamond from his shortstop position and topped at 87 mph off the mound.
• 17 of 43 position players ran a sub-7.0 60-yard dash. 16 players showcased a bat exit velocity of 90 mph or better. Five pitchers topped at 87 mph or better.

• 10:45- 11:15  Two-way Players & Catchers Check-in (SESSION TWO)
• 11:15-  11:45  Two-way Player Introductions / Stretching / 60-Yard Dash
• 11:45- 12:30  Two-way Player/Catcher Live Batting Practice
• 12:30-  1:15  Two-way Player/Catcher Defensive Evaluations
•   1:15-  1:45  Lunch for Two-way Players/Catchers/College Coaches
•   1:15-  1:30  Pitcher Onlys Check-in (SESSION THREE)
  
•   1:30- 2:00  Set up & warm up
•   2:00- 3:30  Bullpen Sessions
  + Two-way players will be first group to throw bullpens, followed by pitcher onlys.
  + Catchers remain for the bullpen session to be evaluated catching pitchers.
