3B/RHP Blaise McCarty Commits to Alderson-Broaddus College

                                    Blaise McCarty

Blaise McCarty, a 6-foot, 175-pound 3B/RHP has enjoyed a rather storied high school baseball career to date. As a sophomore in 20111, McCarty and his Riverside HS teammates captured the Pennsylvania AA State Championship. For most high school baseball players, a state championship is the ultimate goal and the type of accomplishment that only a handful of players get to realize. For good measure, McCarty and his teammates doubled their pleasure in 2012, winning a second consecutive state title. Riverside will attempt the three-peat in 2013, McCarty's senior season, and will do so with McCarty as their No. 1 starter on the mound.

Prior to the run for a third consecutive state title, there was the matter of choosing a college on McCarty's plate. That task is now complete with McCarty's recent commitment to Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, WV. McCarty, the No. 89 ranked player in the Class of 2013, said the decision was fairly easy. "I was impressed with the coaches and felt that Alderson-Broaddus College was best suited for me. Other schools contacted me, but I already knew I wanted to go to A-B."

McCarty, who carries a 3.3 GPA, was first seen by the A-B coaching staff at a Prep Baseball Report showcase at Pullman Park in Butler, PA. According to McCarty, "The coaches contacted me right after the showcase. I made a visit to the school and was very impressed with the facilities and the coaching staff."

The school is currently in the beginning stages of a campus wide facility improvement plan. A brand new artificial turf football stadium is roughly 75% complete and a new on campus artificial turf baseball field is also part of the master plan. Several new dormitories and renovations to classroom buildings are also under way on the historic campus.

With his college choice complete and two state championship rings in the trophy case, McCarty can now set about concentrating on his final season at Riverside HS. McCarty is a well-rounded player who excels in nearly every facet of the game, but feels like he still has room to improve. "My goal individually is to increase velocity on my fastball. As a team, our goal is to work hard every day to give ourselves a chance to win our third straight state championship", said McCarty.
