Analyzing the Corner Infielders at the Western PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2)

Sam Vilk has the type of build that had participants buzzing before he ever began his workout. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound 1B/3B from Mentor, OH made the trip across the border to showcase his abilities and was as impressive on the field as he was walking through the doorway. Vilk walked away with top prospect honors as a result of his performance. Following is a complete analysis of all the corner infielders in attendance at the Western PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2) at the Family First Sports Dome in Erie, PA.

VilkSam Vilk, 1B/3B, Mentor HS (OH), Class of 2014
Vilk made the trip from Mentor, OH to showcase his abilities and walked away as the top prospect in attendance. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound left-handed hitter showcased the top bat exit velocity of the day at 88 mph. Vilk used a square stance, quick hands and a fluid swing to consistently drive the baseball to all fields during his round of batting practice. Vilk showed the potential to be a middle of the order run producer at the next level. He showed athletic actions and good footwork at first base with the top infield arm of the event at 86 mph. Vilk is currently ranked No. 99 in the Ohio Class of 2014 rankings.

Ryan Wardropper, 3B/OF, Elizabeth Forward HS, Class of 2014
Wardropper showed well in all facets of the game. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect ran a 7.37 60-yard dash, threw 79 mph across the infield and showcased a 77 mph bat exit velocity. Wardropper showed athletic actions, soft hands and good carry on throws across the diamond from third base. Hitting out of a square stance, Wardropper consistently squared the baseball and displayed some gap power.

Dominik Pruskowski, 3B/RHP, Meadville HS, Class of 2016
Pruskowski showed promise as the only Class of 2016 prospect in attendance. He ran a 7.58 60-yard dash, threw 76 mph across the diamond and showcased a 74 mph bat exit velocity. Pruskowski had a solid round of batting practice displaying some gap power and the ability to square the baseball frequently. With continued work he should develop into a quality high school hitter.

Nathan Morgan, 3B/SS, McKeesport HS, Class of 2014
Morgan is a 5-foot-8, 160-pound prospect who ran a 7.60 60-yard dash, threw 67 mph across the infield and showcased a 72 mph bat exit velocity. Morgan made consistent contact during his round of batting practice. With additional work on his lower half and stronger top hand action in his swing he will see improved results.
