Central PA Notebook: (Week of May 13 - 19)

With playoff action kicking into full gear this week, this will be the final installment of the Central PA Notebook for 2013. Today we take a look at the top hitting and pitching performances from the final week of the regular season.

Top Hitting Performances

  • Ross DirienzoSomerset’s Ross Dirienzo went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI in a 17-1 win over Richland on Monday.

  • North Star’s Tony Strasiser went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs, a home run and five RBI in a 19-0 win over Conemaugh Valley. The senior also went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, four runs and four RBI in a 16-9 win over Meyersdale to win the WestPAC Championship on Tuesday.
  • North Star’s Shane Supanick went 2-for-2 with a home run, four runs and four RBI in a 19-0 win over Conemaugh Valley.
  • Bishop McCort’s Luke Williams went 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI in an 11-1 win over Richland.
  • Bishop McCort’s Nathan Neiderhiser went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in an 11-1 victory over Richland.
  • Central’s Bradi Moore went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI in a 10-0 win over Southern Huntingdon in the first round of the District 6 AA playoffs.
  • Bellefonte’s Douglas Dietrich went 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in a 7-6 loss to Tyrone on Wednesday.

 Top Pitching Performances

  • North Star’s Tony Strasiser threw a five-inning one-hitter and struck out ten in a 19-0 win over Conemaugh Valley on Thursday in five-innings.

  • NeiderhiserBishop McCort’s Nathan Neiderhiser got the complete game victory in an 11-1 win over Richland. The lefty allowed an unearned run, walked three and struck out nine in the victory.
  • Williamsburg’s Austin McMonagle threw a complete game no-hitter in a 3-0 win over Tussey Mountain on Tuesday. McMonagle walked six but struck out 15 and also went 2-for-2 at the plate.
  • Central’s Ethan Lewis pitched a two-hitter in a five-inning 10-0 win over Southern Huntingdon in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday. The junior lefty allowed two singles, walked one and struck out seven in five innings.
  • Altoona’s Ben Wyland threw a three-hitter in a 3-1 win over Mifflin County on Wednesday. Wyland struck out two and walked just one in the complete game victory.
