Prep Baseball Report

Commitment Corner: 2021 RHP Sean Matson (Unionville)

Dan Cevette
President, NY/PA

The Prep Baseball Report (NY/PA) is excited to have back one of our more popular features which gives a quick-hit "Q and A" look not only to the baseball side of commitments across New York and Pennsylvania, but also checking in with the player and seeing what they have been up to over the last several months.

Sean Matson RHP / SS / Unionville, PA / 2021

PBR: Tell us about your commitment (where). Why did you choose this school? What are you most looking forward to when you step on campus?

Matson: I am currently committed to Harvard University. I chose Harvard because of everything it brings to the table. Not only is it one of the strongest academic institutions in the country, but it also has an extremely competitive baseball program. When I went to their camp in the summer of 2019, I fell in love with the school and automatically knew that it was the perfect place for me. I loved the campus, being in beautiful Cambridge and right outside of Boston. I also got to know the coaching staff very well and loved each coaches philosophy and personality. I am super excited to get on campus next fall to study and play ball.

PBR: How is your off-season training progressing?

Matson: My winter training is going along greatly. I have been focusing on both strength and mobility. Mobility has been so important in my routine because it makes me feel better, and move much more comfortably without being held back. Yoga has been a huge part as well and has helped me transform myself as a player.

PBR: Do you have any experience with PBR? If yes, how was your experience?

Matson: I have a lot of experience with PBR. I went to multiple events and showcases and I believe they were run better than any other service. The events were run efficiently and the showcase portion was able to get all the metrics that were necessary without the usual sitting around and waiting. I was able to use the video and metrics to reach out to coaches and provide them with what they needed to see my ability. Overall, PBR was an amazing experience and absolutely recommended.

PBR: Who is your biggest influence, both on the field and off?

Matson: My biggest influence is probably my sister. She is the best field hockey player in the country and her work ethic and humble attitude for everything is really something that I strive to follow. She has always been there for me and supported me just as much as I have supported her so  I could not have asked for a better sister.

PBR: What goals do you have for 2021 HS Season?

Matson: My biggest goal for the High School season is to win the Chesmont. The personal goals are to just be the best player on the field after every game. I am working hard this offseason to make sure that this is the case. We missed last season so I have been itching to get back out on the field for Unionville. In the end, I just want to have a fun year and what is more fun then winning and striving to be the best.
