Conference Preview: WPIAL Class A - Section 2

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

With the start of the high school season getting started we have been previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.

           WPIAL Class A - Section 2

Preseason Favorite

Serra Catholic (17-3)

The Eagles lost three all-section performers to graduation but return a talented group of ten players that saw varsity action in 2013. All-Section performers Parker Janasko and Brandon Coddinston will be counted on to lead the returning veterans to a 2nd title in as many years.

in the mix

Bishop Cannevin (9-11)

The Crusader bring back a senior heavy lineup that will present the biggest obstacle to Serra Catholic's ability to repeat.

Preseason Player of the Year

Parker JanoskoParker Janasko, Serra Catholic HS (Class of 2015)

Janasko had a breakout year for the Eagles in their run to a section title. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound 3B hit .475 during the regular season and is among a solid group of juniors that return to make Serra Catholic the favorite again this season. Janassko was part of Western PA's Junior Division team that captured the gold medal at the Keystone State Games this past summer.
