Eastern PA Fall Review Analysis: Class of 2019 Position Players

The Eastern PA Fall Review, the second in a series of three fall events that will culminate with the Invitation Only Elite Prospect Showcase on October 28, took place on September 23rd. Nearly 30 prospects from three states showcased their abilities at Widener University. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance at the Eastern PA Fall Review by taking a look at Class of 2019 prospects that participated as position players.

CLASS OF 2019 position players

Hogan DeSpain, 2B/SS, Souderton Area HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, squarre stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Demonstrated above average feel for the barrel while staying inside the baseball routinely during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Went 2-for-4 at the plate in game two while also running a 7.01 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet with an ability to play the baseball on the move and a quick release defensively. Flashed a quick release and accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond.  

Austin Jones, OF, Souderton Area HS (PA)
5-foot-6, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a short swing path with some lower half glide that led to some difficulties in being on time consistently. Registered an 81 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.32 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic actions defensively while consistently playing through the baseball. Accurate 81 mph arm strength showed straight line carry to home plate.

Dylan Kummery, OF, Souderton Area HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-hang stride. An aggressive move to the front side inhibits lower half rotation, but a solid feel for the barrel was present. Went 4-for-6 at the plate in game action including finishing a home run short of the cycle in the second game of the day. Registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Displayed average athleticism defensively with accurate 75 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Dean Shaw, OF, Souderton Area HS (PA)
5-foot-6, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive approach while using the middle of the field well in a solid round of batting practice. Went 3-for-6 at the plate in game action and registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 6.85 60-yard dash, but 3/4 arm action in the outfield will need to be altered in order to play the position at the next level. 

Zack Vonstein, C, Boiling Springs HS (PA)
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short leg-hand stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a feel for the barrel with a flat barrel path through the hitting zone and a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Showcased pop times of 2.20-2.30 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch. Showed a solid set up and presented a soft wall when blocking in game action.
