Eastern PA Top Prospect Games Analysis: Black Team

The schedule of PBR events in Pennsylvania moved to the eastern half of the state with the 2019 Eastern PA Top Prospect Games on June 18th and 19th. Prospects gathered for two days of games and showcase activities at the Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at those that participated as a member of the Black Team.

Spencer ButzConor CookDanny Estrada

Spencer Butz, 2021, SS/OF, York Suburban HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased improved barrel awareness and a greater ability to create backspin compared to previous events attended. Worked through the baseball with present gap power. Registered a bat exit velocity of 90 mph and ran an event best 6.45 60-yard dash. Primary infielder displayed 83 mph arm strength defensively with the foot speed and athleticism to fill any outfield position at the next level.

Conor Cook, 2020, RHP/3B, Neumann-Goretti HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 160-pound primary pitcher sat 81-83  from a high 3/4 arm slot with heavy, late life to his fastball. Repeats delivery well with a long in back, short in front arm action. Curveball sat 66-68 with 11/5 rotation and advanced feel for the zone. Also flashed a changeup at 76-77 with good sell. The left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed balance throughout with a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.05 60-yard dash and showed good carry on throws of 83 mph across the diamond defensively while routinely playing through the baseball.

Danny Estrada, 2021, OF, Wilson West Lawn HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 175-pound left-handed hitter continues to show one of the top hit tools in this class. Starts from a slightly open crouched stance and initiates his swing with a direct swing from a heel-raise stride. Barreled the baseball with regularity while registering a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 6.84 60-yard dash and showcased the ability to play through the baseball with average 76 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Alex Gabauer, 2021, SS, Norwin HS (PA)
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Showcased balance throughout with an above average feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran an improved 6.98 60-yard dash and showed athletic defensive actions with a soft glove hand and solid carry on throws of 80 mph across the diamond.

Jake Books, 2022, LHP/1B, Malvern Prep (PA)
6-foot-2, 200-pound two-way prospect sat 78-80 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, repeatable delivery. Displayed feel for spin with a curveball at 63-64 that had 1/7 rotation. Also commanded a slider with shorter break out of the same window at 68-70 and a changeup at 69-72. Left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiate his swing with a heel-raise stride. Clears his hips well and works through the baseball regularly with a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 92 mph and ran a 7.33 60-yard dash. Showcased a soft glove hand and active feet around the bag at first base.

Daniel Errigo, 2020, RHP, Neshaminy HS (PA)
6-foot-4, 195-pound righty sat 83-85 from a 3/4 arm slot and hip coil to his delivery that creates added deception. Commanded the zone and uses a curveball at 74-75 with slider break effectively to keep hitters off balance. Also showcased a changeup at 74-75 and a cutter at 75-77 that are both still in development. Two solid pitches and a very projectable frame makes Errigo one of the top uncommitted arms in this class as we move into the summer of 2019.

Jayden Taitano, 2020, C/3B, Conestoga Valley HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitter quare stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to begin. Showcased a solid feel for the barrel and the ability to create some backspin with a bat exit velocity of 90 mph. Displayed athletic actions defensively with good feet and ran a 7.07 60-yard dash. Continues to show advanced catch and throw abilities with  pop times of 1.95-2.05 on throws of 79 mph  from the crouch.

Matt Benner, 2021, C/OF, Souderton Area HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates swing with a toe-tap stride. Displayed a middle of the field, line drive approach with balance throughout and a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 7.18 60-yard dash. Athletic defender showcased pop times of 2.15-2.20 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch.

Keon Burkholder, 2021, RHP, St. John Neumann HS (PA)
6-foot-3, 170-pound righty sat 80-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a chin high knee stack and hip swivel action to his delivery. Fastball showed heavy action early on and curveball at 69-72 with 11/5 rotation had swing and miss action at times. Changeup at 74-75 is thrown at near fastball arm speed with little movement. Projectable frame and unique delivery makes Burkholder an interesting follow in this class.

Charles Evans, 2022, OF/RHP, Pennsbury HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Hands work well through contact and displayed the ability to use all fields in a solid round of batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.17 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic actions while playing through the baseball routinely in the outfield with accurate 84 mph arm strength. Sat 79-81 on the mound with heavy arm-side run out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm action is short in back with a hook. Curveball has two-plane 11/5 rotation at 66-69 and changeup sat 71-72 at near fastball arm speed.

Andrew Falk, 2020, OF, Bishop Shanahan HS (PA)
5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a short, leg-lift stride to begin. Displayed a feel for the barrel with the ability to create some backspin during a solid round of batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 6.87 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic actions in the outfield with the ability to play through the baseball and accurate 77 mph arm strength.

Marcus Hill, 2020, C/OF, West York HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Displayed loose hands and a feel for the barrel while barreling the baseball consistently during his round of batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 76 mph and ran a 6.94 60-yard dash. Showcased pop times of 2.15-2.25 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch defensively.

Wyatt Yaindl, 2021, SS/RHP, Southern Lehigh HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed above average rhythm to his swing with a feel for the barrel and a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and showcased athletic defensive actions in game action. Only participated on day one of the event.
