The 5th annual Elite Prospect Showcase took place October 28th at Keystone State Baseball Academy. Today we continue our analysis of the players in attendance by taking a look at two-way players from the Class of 2019.

CLASS OF 2019 two-way players

TOP PROSPECT

Kevin Vaupel, LHP/1B, South Park HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 215-pound primary pitcher sat 81-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with natural cut to his fastball. Showed an up tempo delivery with a short side-rocker step into a point of balance. Displayed a tight breaking 1/7 curveball that has a chance to be an out pitch at the next level at 69-72. Changeup sat 73-75 with some sink with near fastball arm speed. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-hang stride. Fires barrel from a high-hands load with a high back elbow and his barrel pointed nearly directly at the pitcher. Creates significant barrel whip with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph and significant backspin on the baseball. Ran a 7.60 and showcased athletic actions around the bag at first base with 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.

REMAINING PROSPECTS (IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER)

Troy Emert, RHP/SS, Rockwood Area HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 175-pound primary pitcher sat sat 79-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Compact delivery with a high knee stack and short arm swing with two-seam run to his fastball. Curveball showed tight 11/5 rotation at 65-68, slider showed similar action at 69-71 and changeup slowed late sink at 70-71. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open, wide, crouched stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-hang stride. Barreled the baseball routinely with a short swing leading to an 80 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash and registered 76 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively while routinely playing through the baseball. Solid glove hand and active feet should allow for the ability to play multiple infield positions at the next level.

Brian Hostetter, LHP/1B, Conrad Weiser HS (PA)
6-foot, 155-pound primary pitcher sat 71-72 from a 3/4 arm slot. Repeatable mechanics with good balance at finish. Physical maturity and strength gains should lead to velocity spikes in coming years. Slider showed sweeping 2/8 break at 59-60 and changeup sat 64-65. Left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Generates barrel whip largely with his upper half and registered a bat exit velocity of 72 mph. Ran a 7.54 60-yard dash and showcased accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively.

Rylan Kramer, RHP/OF, Wilson Area HS (PA)
Athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound primary pitcher sat 79-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Starts delivery with a side-rocker step and hip coil in his stack leads to some arm-side run. Curveball shows tight 12/6 rotation at 67-69 and changeup sits 72-74 at near fastball arm speed. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing from a deep load with a lift-and-replace stride. Tends to pull bat head through the zone with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 7.58 60-yard dash and registered 81 mph arm strength from the outfield defensively.

Justin Wetzel, 1B/LHP, West York HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 160-pound primary position player ran a 6.88 60-yard dash and showcased athletic actions around the bag at first base. Plays through the ball with a soft glove hand and displayed 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a short, lift-and-replace stride to square. Flat barrel path through the zone led to an 82 mph bat exit velocity with consistent barrels of the baseball. The lefty sat 75-76 from a 3/4 arm slot on the mound with a short arm swing and balance throughout. Curveball has tight 1/7 rotation at 66-68 while changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed at 66-68.
