Elite Prospect Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

The Elite Prospect Showcase showcased 68 talented prospects from four states. A talented group of 16 3rd basemen and 1st basemen were on display. Following is a look at the top prospects among corner infielders in attendance.


Top Prospects

Nicky D'Amore3B/RHP Nicky D'Amore (Neumann-Goretti HS, Class of 2016)

D'Amore is a 6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitter with a strong frame and some pop in his bat. He hits from a slightly open stance and uses all fields well. D'Amore made consistent hard contact in his round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Defensively he showed an 84 mph arm across the infield with good carry to his throws. His feet work well and he showed the ability to make plays on the move. Although he played shortstop as a freshman in high school, D'Amore is most projectable at 3B.

Christian Fedko3B Christian Fedko (Vincentian Academy, Class of 2017)

Fedko has yet to play a high school game, but shows the skills to be a highly ranked prospect in this class. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound freshman showed capable glove work and an improving arm with throws of 75 mph across the diamond. Fedko hits from an open stance and incorporates a leg lift load to generate a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. The right-handed hitter displayed the ability to use all fields and the potential for some gap power. He has a lot going on in the load phase of his swing, but has shown the ability to get his front foot down and be to the hitting zone on time at several PBR events recently.

Connor Hood3B Connor Hood (Susquehannock HS, Class of 2016)

Hood is a 6-foot, 165-pound prospect with an athletic frame that has room to fill out considerably. He showcased athletic actions and a 78 mph arm across the diamond from 3B. Hood has middle infield quality feet and hands, but his frame suggests that 3B will remain his primary position. The right-handed hitter showcased some gap power and a 90 mph bat exit velocity at the plate. Hood gets to full extension consistently and displayed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields.

3B/RHP Logan Buell (Pennsbury HS, Class of 2015)

Buell is a 5-foot-8, 190-pound two-way prospect that touched 81 mph off the mound. He showed the ability to play through the baseball and accurate throws of 74 mph across the diamond from 3B. Buell had a solid round of batting practice, utilizing a strong lower half from a square stance to create a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. He barreled the baseball consistently and showed signs of some gap power.

3B Vincent Burrafato (Tottenville HS - NY, Class of 2014)

Burrafato is a 5-foot-11, 175-prospect that made the trip from Staten Island, NY. The uncommitted senior showed the ability to play through the baseball and accurate throws of 74 mph across the diamond. The right-handed hitter displayed a slightly open stance and a toe tap trigger in the load phase of his swing. Burrafato showed good extension to his swing and the ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph.

C/3B Adam Celidonia (Montour HS, Class of 2016)

Celidonia is a two-way prospect that worked out as a catcher as well as at 3B. He showed capable actions at 3B, with solid range and accurate throws of 73 mph across the diamond. The talented hitter displayed the versatility to potentially play multiple defensive positions at the next level. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitter showed real offensive promise. Celidonia swings from a slightly open stance and generates barrel whip with an explosive hip turn. He displayed the ability to barrel the baseball routinely and showed gap power potential to both sides of the field with an 85 mph bat exit velocity.

3B/2B Owen Goryl (Phoenixville HS, Class of 2015)

Goryl has added considerable size and strength to his frame in the past year. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter showed a compact swing and a strong lower half that allowed him to consistently square the baseball. He stays inside the baseball well and makes consistent hard contact. Goryl displayed improving arm strength on throws of 74 mph across the diamond.

1B Seth Holler (Greater Latrobe HS, Class of 2015)

Holler is an athletic 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect that moves well around the bag at 1B. He showed a soft glove hand and an accurate 75 mph arm across the diamond. The right-handed hitter uses a leg lift load and a strong lower half to incorporate barrel whip in his swing. He barreled the baseball frequently during his round of batting practice with the potential for some gap power. Holler showcased an above average 88 mph bat exit velocity from the tee.

RHP/1B Sam Lazowski (Donegal HS, Class of 2015)

Lazowski showed good footwork and capable glove work around the bag at 1B with throws of 76 mph across the diamond. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound prospect is a left-handed hitter that has a bit of length to his swing with a flat path through the hitting zone. Lazowski barreled most baseballs with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph.

1B Riley Mihalik (Springside-Chestnut Hill, Class of 2015)

Mihalik is a 6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect that has soft hands and solid footwork around the bag at 1B with an accurate 75 mph arm across the diamond. The left-handed hitter utilizes a square stance and a flat bat path through the hitting zone to barrel the baseball routinely. Mihalik does a good job of clearing his hips and allowing his hands to work with a very solid bat exit velocity of 91 mph. He has the potential to develop consistent gap power as he physically matures into his body.

RHP/3B Zach Newmyer (Red Land HS, Class of 2014)

Newmyer is a primary pitcher that touched 85 mph off the mound. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound two-way prospect displayed accurate throws of 80 mph across the diamond with the same long arm action he incorporates on the mound. The right-handed hitter displayed a bat exit velocity of 86 mph and the ability to barrel the baseball frequently in batting practice.

RHP/3B Steve Moppert (Penncrest HS, Class of 2015)

Moppert is a 6-foot-1, 165-pound primary pitcher that touched 80 off the mound. The right-handed hitter showed good rhythm to his swing hitting out of a square stance with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Moppert barreled the baseball consistently while staying inside the baseball routinely. He showed capable actions at 3B with accurate throws of 76 mph across the diamond.

1B/LHP Nick O'Shea (Springfield HS, Class of 2015)

O'Shea is a 6-foot, 195-pound left-handed hitter that incorporated a high hands load and a flat bat path to barrel the baseball often during his round of batting practice. His swing path gets a bit long at times leading to bat drag through the zone. O'Shea showcased a bat exit velocity of 82 mph from the tee. The two-way prospect showed a soft glove hand and accurate throws of 72 mph across the diamond.

1B Kyle Rogers (Hazleton Area HS, Class of 2015)

Rogers is a very strong 6-foot, 195-pound prospect that showcased his strength during the course of the event. He showed capable actions at 1B with accurate throws of 76 mph across the diamond. The right-handed hitter barreled the baseball frequently during his round of batting practice with an impressive 93 mph bat exit velocity. Rogers incorporates a leg lift load and a strong lower half to create barrel whip in his swing.

1B/RHP Dylan Spiegel (Bishop McDevitt HS, Class of 2015)

Spiegel hits from a square stance with no stride and displayed a flat bat path to the baseball. He barreled the baseball frequently and displayed a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. The 6-foot, 155-pound prospect displayed capable actions around the bag at first base with good carry to throws of 78 mph across the diamond.

3B Jeremy Wasik (Thomas Jefferson HS, Class of 2015)

Wasik is a 5-foot-11, 210-pound right-handed hitter that utilizes a high hands load and a square stance. He displayed the ability to barrel the baseball frequently while using all fields. Wasik showcased a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. He showed accurate throws of 74 mph across the diamond and the ability to make all plays with decent feet for a prospect his size.
