Elite Prospect Showcase Spotlight: OF Chase Smith

Chase SmithLess than two months remain until PBR Pennsylvania's Elite Prospect Showcase on November 7th at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim. Today, in the fifth in a series of previews on prospects who will be in attendance, we highlight Central (Martinsburg) 2017 outfielder Chase Smith.

A 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter, Smith has exhibited a quality tool set at multiple events over the past year. He has good straight line speed (6.92 60-yard dash) that plays well on the bases (4.41 home-to-1B and 4.53 on a turn). Smith has some length in his swing, but has flashed bat speed (87-mph exit velocity) and the ball jumps off his bat when he gets to extension. He tracks the ball well in the outfield and continues to improve his arm strength (up to 80-mph in June). The primary clean-up hitter for the Scarlet Dragons as a sophomore, Smith hit .371 with three doubles, four triples, and six stolen bases, and a one-to-one strikeout-to-walk ratio.
