Fall Kickoff Showcase Analysis: Class of 2020

The Fall Kickoff Showcase on August 16th officially marked the beginning of the fall schedule of PBR events in Pennsylvania. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing those prospects in attendance by taking a look at those prospects in the Class of 2020.

TOP PROSPECTs

Billy GerlottBilly Gerlott, 3B, Blue Mountain HS (PA)
Physical 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-hang stride. Displayed above average balance and rhythm to his swing with an ability to create backspin and a bat exit velocity of 92 mph. Ran a 7.08 60-yard dash and active feet defensively with a soft glove hand. Made all plays look routine while playing through the baseball routinely with accurate 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. Definite high follow in this class with a chance to be a quality defender and run producing bat at the next level.

Jonas HochJonas Hoch, OF/RHP, Oley Valley HS (PA)
6-foot, 155-pounder has an athletic frame with plenty of room to add additional strength. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and incorporates a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a strong hip turn and the ability to create backspin during a strong round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Ran a 6.95 60-yard dash and showcased athletic actions defensively while consistently playing through the baseball with accurate 83 mph arm strength to home plate. 

Emilio PallanteEmilio Pallante, SS/2B, Council Rock South HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride with significant lower half glide. Hands work well through contact leading to a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Made consistent hard contact in game action while hitting at the top of the order. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash and displayed athletic actions defensively with a very soft glove hand. Registered 83 mph arm strength across the diamond and played through the baseball consistently during tournament action with an instinct for playing the good hop.

Tyler YoungTyler Young, SS/2B, Central Bucks East HS (PA)
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a strong lower half and an above average feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Went 3-for-8 with a double and a walk in tournament action. Advanced defender moves well around the middle infield with a soft glove hand and above average 85 mph arm strength across the diamond. 7.51 foot speed could make a move to 3B necessary at the next level, but frame should carry additional weight and strength in the coming years.

Collin Beech, 1B/LHP, Warwick HS (PA)
6-foot-2, 245-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Demonstrated a solid feel for the barrel in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Also displayed an ability to drive the ball to the opposite field as evidenced by an in-game double to left-center field. Moves well around the bag at first base and showed confidence in his glove hand with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Sat 74-76 out of a 3/4 arm slot with some backwards lean to his upper half in the stack position. Also displayed a curveball with 1/7 rotation at 61-62.

Khaleil Blanding, 2B/OF, Muhlenberg HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Showcased a solid feel for the barrel in batting practice with an 81 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 7.71 60-yard dash and displayed the ability to handle corner outfield duties in addition to playing in the infield. Primary second baseman has confidence in his glove hand and showed the ability to make the routine play with regularity. Registered accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Anthony Bruno, C, Hatboro-Horsham HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 205-pounder has grown four inches and added 65 pounds to his frame in the past two years. The right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Displayed a feel for the barrel and the ability to create backspin during batting practice with an 84 mph bat exit velocity. Showcased pop times of 2.34-2.41 on throws of 66 mph from the crouch defensively.

Nick D'Apolito, 3B/RHP, Council Rock North HS (PA)
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Showed balance & rhythm to his swing with a solid lower half. Displayed a feel for the barrel in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Ran a 7.04 60-yard dash and flashed active feet with advanced arm strength (84 mph) across the diamond from third base defensively. Righty sat 76-78 out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound while also showcasing a curveball with 11/5 shape at 67-69.

Cameron Panyko Morris, OF/3B, West Allegheny HS (PA)
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed an above average feel for the barrel in batting practice with an 83 mph bat exit velocity. Displayed the ability to handle defensive duties in the outfield (83 mph arm) and at third base (79 mph). Athletic defender will have opportunities to play a number of defensive positions at the next level. 7.25 runner went 1-for-2 in game action with a pair of walks while also swiping a pair of bases.

Joseph Rossi, C, Holy Cross HS (PA)
6-foot, 220-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and incorporates a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Demonstrated a feel for the barrel with some present pull side power and a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. Showcased pop times of 2.28-2.35 on throws of 74 mph from the crouch. Physical frame with the potential to be a run producer at the next level.

Zach Shertzer, 3B/2B, Warwick HS (PA)
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and uses a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed an above average feel for the barrel and the ability to backspin the baseball during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in game action and ran a 7.54 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet and a solid glove hand defensively with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Tanner Vanderslice, C, Daniel Boone HS (PA)
5-foot-8, 160-pound switch hitter starts his right-hand swing from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a line-drive approach with a feel for the barrel and an 87 mph bat exit velocity. Left-hand swing is still in development with significant barrel drag through the zone. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash and registered pop times of 2.15-2.25 on throws of 77 mph from the crouch. Pop times will lower quickly with work to shorten long-arm throwing motion.

Dylan Wujcik, OF, Ringgold HS (PA)
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed a flat barrel path through the hitting zone with a line drive approach leading to an 82 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 7.15 60-yard dash and displayed athletic action defensively while consistently playing through the baseball with accurate 71 mph arm strength.
