Fall Kickoff Showcase Analysis: Class of 2020 Position Players

The Fall Kickoff Showcase took place on August 15th at historic Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary position players from the Class of 2020.

Class of 2020 Top Prospects

Matt Turner

Christopher McLean, North Penn HS, 3B
Physical 5-foot-11, 192-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a line drive approach with a high finish and a solid feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 7.46 60-yard dash. Flashed active feet and a live arm defensively while routinely playing through the baseball. Showed good carry on throws of 82 mph across the diamond.

Matt Turner, Downingtown West HS, C
5-foot-11, 200-pound right-handed hitter, still working back from a summer long injury, took arguably the top round of batting practice at the event. He starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to begin. Showed balance throughout with the ability to create backspin with an aggressive hip turn. Displayed current gap power with a bat exit velocity of 91 mph and ran a 7.58 60-yard dash. Sound defender behind the dish registered solid pop times of 2.06-2.18 and and above average 78 mph arm strength with good carry to the bag. Additional work to shorten the arm swing will lower pop times quickly.

Class of 2020 Prospects (in alphabetical order)

Matthew Burnett, Pleasant Valley HS, 3B/RHP
6-foot, 215-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Displayed balance throughout with a feel for the barrel and some pull side pop. Registered a bat exit velocity of 91 mph and ran a 7.48 60-yard dash. Showcased confidence in his glove hand and adequate feet defensively with accurate 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 78-79 from a 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Also showed a curveball at 66-68 with 11/5 rotation and a changeup at near fastball arm speed that sat 73-75.

Anthony Campo, St. Joseph's Prep, OF
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Displayed solid balance and a gap-to-gap approach offensively. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.25 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic defensive actions while routinely playing through the baseball and accurate 81 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Zach Keib, Brentwood, SS
5-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitter begins from a narrow, square stance and initiates his swing with a controlled, lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a middle of the field, line drive approach at the plate. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.22 60-yard dash. Displayed active feet and the ability to play through the baseball with accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively.

Zachary Revuelta, Union Catholic HS (NJ), 3B
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a line drive, middle of the field approach during batting practice. Registered a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 7.94 60-yard dash. Showcased developing defensive actions with 70 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively.

Tommy Simpson, Lansdale Catholic HS, SS
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Swing is rotational and is dominated by his upper half. Registered a bat exit velocity of 73 mph and ran a 7.16 60-yard dash. Current 72 mph arm strength and defensive actions are best suited for second base at the next level.

Justin Stefanowicz, Hanover Area, C
5-foot-10, 205-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a heel-raise stride to begin. Displayed a flat barrel path through the zone with a line drive approach utilizing all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran an 8.06 60-yard dash. Stefanowicz worked at 3B at a past event, but showcased his skills behind the dish on this date. Registered pop times of 2.30-2.40 with 64 mph arm strength out of the crouch.

Hayden Tencza, Cumberland Valley HS, C
6-foot-1, 200-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg-hand stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a solid lower half and a flat barrel path through the zone. Registered an event best bat exit velocity of 93 mph and ran a 7.87 60-yard dash. Showcased pop times of 2.28-2.40 behind the dish with 69 mph arm strength out of the crouch.

Malik Thomas, Pennsbury HS, OF
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitter showed well in spite of a pair of injuries that had him at less than 100%. Thomas starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a line drive approach with an ability to use all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.16 60-yard dash. Displayed athletic actions defensively while playing through the baseball routinely. Has shown 80 mph arm strength from the outfield previously when at full health.
