Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

The Fall Kickoff Showcase took place on August 15th at historic Cooper Park on the campus of Millersville University. Today we continue a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary pitchers from the Class of 2021.

Class of 2021 Prospects (in alphabetical order)

Jack HamiltonJack Hamilton, Central Bucks East HS, RHP
6-foot-8, 180-pound primary pitcher creates a presence on the mound with his current stature. Long frame has room for additional strength gains. Working from a side rocker step with some hip coil to his delivery fastball sat 80-83 with some arm-side run out of a 3/4 arm slot. Velocity plays up due to long levers creating interesting sight lines for the hitter and release point being closer to the plate. Curveball at 66-70 had flat 10/4 break early, but improved as he went on taking on a tighter 11/5 break. Allowed two runs over four innings of work during the tournament portion of the event. Showed solid command with two walks allowed, both in his final inning of work. Struck out three and retired five hitters on ground balls during his outing.

Michael Mehalshick, Hazleton Area HS, RHP
5-foot-8, 150-pound righty worked out solely as a primary pitcher at this event. We also saw Mehalshick over the winter as a position player. The righty sat 67-71 on this date from a low 3/4 arm slot with solid command of his three pitch mix. The fastball was relatively flat, but comes out of an interesting arm slot that could present issues for right handed hitters. A slider at 62-63 showed short, late break that was flat. A changeup at 64-65 is thrown with good sell and has some late sink. Athletic frame with room to add proportional strength in the coming years. Could develop into an interesting back end reliever if velocity gains are realized moving forward.
