Game Recap: Archbishop Ryan vs Conwell-Egan

By Jacob Gill
Philadelphia Region Director of Scouting

Conwell-Egan 22, Archbishop Ryan 9

All you need to know about this game is that in nine half-innings of play, the offenses scored in every single one of them and posted crooked numbers in six of the nine. The crushing frame was a 12-run bottom of the fourth inning, in which Conwell-Egan sent sixteen hitters to the plate, twice having six straight batters reach base.

Leadoff man Justin Forktus (3-4, 2 2B, BB, 5 RBI) sparked an Eagles offense that also got multi-hit games from 2014 OF Billy Bonfig, 2014 C Mike Force, 2014 1B Greg Black, 2014 OF John Garry, 2016 SS Ameir Uzzell, and 2017 DH Shane Souchuck. 2016 RHP Billy Meyer (2.1 IP, 3 H, BB, 4 K) stabilized the pitching side of things for Conwell-Egan, quelling a 4-run third inning with a big, two-out strikeout, then putting up two more innings of solid relief work.

Fairleigh Dickinson-bound Bobby Romano (2-2, HR, RBI, HBP) and 2014 1B Nick Centeno (2-2, HR, 2 RBI, BB) reached base safely in each of their three plate appearances, while 2016 3B Tyler DiMatteo (1-1, 3 RBI, HBP, sac fly) tried to keep Archbishop Ryan in the game.

Conwell-Egan advances to face Red Division champion La Salle at 3:00pm on Sunday.  Archbishop Ryan is eliminated. For complete results of the Philadelphia Catholic League playoffs, and other conference tournaments around the state, click here.
