Game Recap: Council Rock North at Wissahickon

One of our preseason favorites in District I 4A, Council Rock North had trouble stringing wins together early in the year. The veteran club with a number college-bound players was 7-6 on the first of May and scrambling to earn a berth in the district bracket. It put those fears to bed by winning four of its last five regular-season games, and has since stretched that streak to six of seven following back-to-back post-season shutouts, including yesterday's 6-0 win over Wissahickon that advanced the Indians to the quarterfinal round.

Senior Noah Hartwell, who is committed to Towson as an outfielder, authored a complete game five-hitter while also going 2-4 and driving in the first two runs of the game when he lined a bases loaded, two-out single to center in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Wissahickon starter Logan Willans would settle down from there, matching goose eggs with Hartwell until CRN put the game away with a four-run top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from junior shortstop Matt Hand.

From there, Hartwell would retire six of the final seven hitters he faced to put his squad on the brink of a state tournament berth, which it can earn with a win tomorrow at Conestoga. Wissahickon wraps up its season with a record of 14-6 to go along with its SOL American regular-season co-championship.
