Kyle VirbitskyFreshman right-handed pitcher Aidan Frye carried a perfect game into the sixth inning, and then pitched out of a jam in the top of the seventh to preserve a 1-0 win for Springside Chestnut Hill, keeping the Blue Devils in lock step with Malvern Prep and The Haverford School atop the Inter-Ac standings.

Frye pounded the zone from the start, taking advantage of an aggressive Churchmen line-up to record a significant number of outs early in the count. He logged Alex Burmanback-to-back four-pitch innings in the third and fourth, including four first-pitch outs. Sophomore Kyle Virbitsky (top right) ended Frye's perfect game bid when he lined an elevated curveball to right-field for a clean single with two outs in the top of the sixth.

Despite their offensive struggles for the first six frames, the Churchmen had a golden opportunity in the top of the seventh. With one out, brothers Alex Burman (middle right) and Ben Burman, a Susquehanna commit, stroked back-to-back singles, which resulted AJ LaBellain two runners in scoring position when Ben advanced to second on the throw from the center fielder to third base. But Frye (CG, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K) would escape the jam when a pinch runner was thrown out at the plate on a groundball to shortstop for out number two and a foul pop out to third base put a cap on his effort.

SCHA gave its young hurler all the run support he would need with its first three hitters of the game. Sophomore outfielder Nick Rowland singled to center and came around to score on a double by junior third baseman A.J. LaBella (bottom right). From there, sophomore left-handed pitcher Cameron Van Hoorebeke (6 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K) would settle in and keep his team in the ballgame.

Both teams play non-league games today (EA against Perkiomen School; SCHA vs Devon Prep) and will return to Inter-Ac play on Tuesday (EA vs league leader Malvern Prep; SCHA vs The Haverford School).
