Game Recap: Governor Mifflin at Exeter Township

Governor Mifflin 2, Exeter Township 1

Junior right-handed pitcher Noah Weber worked six effective innings allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four. Weber walked one and hit one on the afternoon, both coming in the 5th inning after two were out.

Mustangs catcher Earl Kochel, an Alderson Broaddus recruit, led off the 2nd inning with a double to the wall in center field followed by a single by Dylan Louviaux. A third hit in the inning by designated hitter Austin Baker scored the game's first run. The inning could have been bigger if not for an outstanding defensive play by Eagles' third baseman Shaun O'Reilly who was able to field a ground ball on the third base line, tag the runner and throw across the infield to complete the double play minimizing the damage.

Governor Mifflin pushed their lead to 2-0 in the top of the 3rd inning when Ajay Sczepkowski laced a two out double to score Zach Wyrick who had reached on an error. Exeter Township cut that lead in half with a two out rally of their own in the bottom half of the inning with Jake Frey's single scoring Chris Smith.

Frey (6.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 2 BB) and Weber (6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 4 K, 1 BB) held both offenses in check over the middle innings and Weber gave way to sophomore Joe Adametz to start the bottom of the 7th inning. The 6-foot-5 lefty worked around a hit batter, an error and a single to get out of a bases loaded, one out jam to secure the win while picking up the save.

With runners at first and second and nobody out, Governor Mifflin executed the wheel play to perfection on an attempted bunt for the inning's first out. Following a hard hit single to right field by Julian Torres to load the bases Adametz coaxed a strike out and a pop up to his first baseman in foul territory to end the game.
