Game Recap: Unionville @ Sun Valley

By Jacob Gill
Philadelphia Region Director of Scouting

Sun Valley 6, Unionville 2

PruittThe Vanguards picked quite a time to break their 9-game losing streak, knocking off the co-Ches-Mont American leading Indians, who fell one game behind Great Valley (a 10-0 winner over Kennett) in the standings. 2015 RHP C.J. Pruitt (right) led the way, going start to finish on the mound while recording eight strikeouts against seven hits and five walks.

Four straight hits to begin the bottom of the second inning started a 3-run rally that was all the run support Pruitt would need. Unionville got one back the next half inning when 2015 OF Drew Jarmuz smoked an RBI single to center, but Sun Valley responded with an RBI double by 2014 1B Matt Skwirut, his second of the day. Unionville tallied its other run in the top of the sixth, but Sun Valley answered again, this time when two runs scored on an infield error. The Indians loaded the bases with two out in the top of the seventh, but Pruitt finished off his solid performance by striking out the potential tying run.

Skwirut (2-2, 2 2B, BB, 2 RBI) led Sun Valley offensively. VCU-bound Nick Ward (3-4, 2 2B) was impressive in pacing Unionville out of the leadoff spot, while Jarmuz (1-1, 3 BB, RBI) and 2015 2B Eric Takoushian (2-2, 2 BB) reached base in each of their four plate appearances.
