Game of the Day: Marsh Spins Complete Game Shutout

Dillon MarshPotential and projectability don't always translate into early success on the diamond for freshmen getting their first taste of varsity competition. That has not been the case thus far for LHP/OF Dillon Marsh. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound two-way prospect used 97 pitches yesterday to record a complete game shutout over Annville-Cleona (5-1) striking out 11 while walking just two. Marsh allowed five hits and threw first pitch strikes to 17 of the 26 batters he faced.

Bayley JamanisMuch of the offense for Lancaster Catholic (4-1) was provided by junior third baseman Bayley Jamanis. The 6-foot, 180-pound two-way prospect who also pitches, allowed his bat to do the talking going 2-for-4 with a run scored while driving in three runs. Jamanis' two-run home run in the sixth inning jump started the Crusaders offense and broke a scoreless tie. Gabe Cicala also had a solid day at the plate from the lead-off spot going 2-for-4 and Marsh aided his own cause with a double for the Crusaders.

Marsh is regarded as one of the top Class of 2018 prospects in the state. He impressed at the Elite Prospect Showcase in November with a well-rounded skill set that has created significant Division I interest even before playing his first high school game. The event showcased some of the top young talent in the tri-state region at Keystone State Baseball Academy and Marsh was among the standouts in attendance.

Marsh featured a loose, quick arm and high leg kick that helped generate fastballs at 83-85 out of a three-quarter arm slot with minimal effort. He featured a solid change-up at 70-73 with sink when he got it out front. His curveball clocked in at 71-72 and showed a short 1/7 break, although he tended to slow his arm to throw it.  The left-handed hitter's hands work despite triggering with no stride and swinging with his body a bit. He stays inside the ball well and has a chance to hit for some pop, as his 90-mph exit velocity indicates. He also ran a 6.99 60-yard dash and showed good feet and hands at first base.
