Junior Spotlight: RHP Curtis Staropoli

By Greg Williams

Curtis StaropoliRHP Curtis Staropoli (Holy Ghost Prep) had a solid sophomore season being named to the all-Southeastern PA 4th team, but it appears much bigger things are in store. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior has added 10 pounds to his frame since his appearance at the PA Top Prospect Games in June. Staropoli topped at 80 mph during the event and showed signs of much more to come. He displayed sound mechanics and the ability to pound the strike zone.

Staropoli has begun the process of narrowing down college options and will continue to do so moving into the 2014 calendar year. According to Staropoli, "I attended the University of Delaware Camp in October and have an unofficial visit to Lafayette this week. I am interested in Columbia and had recent contact with the coaches there. I made the Philly Bandits 17u team and will be playing with them in the spring/ summer. This year will be big for me visiting schools. I was clocked at 85 mph during try-outs in October and have been training hard....I'm up to 190 pounds so hopefully I can keep improving."

With the added weight and velocity look for Staropoli to build on his successful sophomore campaign. He will combine with 2015 RHP Tim Brennan, a St. Joseph's University commit, to form a very formidable 1-2 punch in the rotation for the Firebirds.

Staropoli is currently ranked No. 149 in the PA Class of 2015, but could make a significant jump in the rankings when they are next released in March. He is scheduled to showcase the improvements that he has made at the Preseason All-State Showcase in February.
